what is the textbook you guys use in class and how effective do you find it? i'm doing apUS self study, and i'm a little freaked out because i hear it's a lot of work. (not hard but a lot of work)

I used Enduring Vision. I hated it at the time, but realized afterwards that it was very helpful.

We use American Pageant. I think most AP US classes use that one. I don't really like it. I use REA for reinforcement, since I often lose focus while reading the book.

The APUS test itself is based on the American Pageant text which is why most high schools use it.

yeah, we use American Pageant too.

we used alan Brinkley's American History. I have this neaking suspicion that it sucks.

Enduring vision I think is really good

Its also important to mention that there are several books (not just one!) that the Collegeboard says adequately prepares students for the APUSH exam. Check the 'acorn book', which you can find online.

We used Brinkley's book mostly, but we also had some work to do out of Bailey's The American Paegeant (sp???) as well. Plus for review we used the AMSCO Publishing book which was really good. Keep up on those AP MC questions - we had a daily MC question everyday and it really helped.

We use "The American Pageant," as well.

I actually don't mind the book, but that may be augmented by my hate for my European History book from last year...

We also use "United States History: Preparing for the Advanced Placement Examination," which is somewhat of a cram-book, by Newman and Schmalbach.

we use THE NATIONAL EXPERIENCE - A HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES
it's a really boring and wordy book.

American Paegant + REA = 5

American Pageant=the best textbook I've ever used. I'd marry it, if I was forced by some strange turn of events to marry a textbook.

I used Princeton Review's "Cracking the AP US History Test." It had a good summary and rather accurate practice tests.
