Did anyone get a 5 on the APUSH exam who chose essay #2, about Virginia and Massachusetts, over the Mexican War one? I heard people did terrible on this essay, and I jsut wanted to see what scores looked like from people who wrote it!

i havent gotten my scores back but i wrote about that one and i thought i did pretty well with it.

I didnt get my score back but I remember doing this essay. I basically wrote about John Smith, John Rolfe, and how the pilgrims used tobacco as a cash crop. For massachusetts I mentioned fur trading posts with the indians. Overall I think i did fine on this essay

haha wow i wrote about none of that. I talked about how massachussetts was more commerce based and industrialized than the plantation south (Virginia) and how it affected their politics/governments. I talked about House of Burgesses, town meetings, etc. for MA and I forgot what I said for VA. Crap I probably did terribly

just john smith and john rolfe, I recall the essay asked to analyze a long time period. I mentioned the whole virginia colonial government.

grumpybear i think that is fine to at least meet core, i included those things and extended a bit more into detail.

hey do u guys remember what essay 3 was about?

i think im just having AP anxiety (it seems like I'm the only one here where I live that hasn't gotten scores!) And I saw a post on CC a few months ago about how the graders said that essay 2 was the worst one they'd seen in a LONG time

^ Mexican War... I think.

something about causes of the mexican war? not completely sure but you can check collegeboard.com and look at the exam

i chose essay 2 and got a 5

nice!! what did you write about?

Just looked it up, Essay 3: Analyze the extent to which 2 of the following transformed american society in the 1960's and 1970's.
1. The civil rights movement
2. The antiwar movement
3. The womens movement

oh i did that one. that one didn't exactly go so well either... especially the antiwar part.

another question - how many documents are you expected to use on the DBQ? Is it ok to just use more than half or are you expected to mention all of them? I thought my DBQ was solid but I just used over half of the documents.

HAHA you have to use all of them, AT MOST exclude one. Europe says "majority", but that is because AP euro DBQ's consist of like 15 docs.

hmm...i'll try to remember...

-house of burgesses vs. town meetings
-religion vs. economic foundations
-community closeness (went with the religion i think) vs. spread out plantations
-the impact of new england's more difficult climate on the character of the massachusetts citizens vs. the richer soil and more temperate atmosphere of the south

and i'm sure of bunch of random stuff. it was more cohesive when i wrote it (i'm guessing...)

yeah i regretted writing it after the AP since almost no one did it, but i definitely did not know as much about the Mexican War.

yes! i wrote about all of that! thats GOOD

Cash Crops vs. Subsistence

but crap i did NOT know that about the DBQ. How much would it hurt you to use 6-7/10 documents?
