Apush FRQ

Ok so I wrote for numbers 2 & 5 for the Apush test today. I think I totally owned number two but for number five I made the biggest mistake. So as I was writing for the 1890s to 1920s I thought I wad writing for the 19502- 1960s so I began talking about like mlk and rosa parks. But when I finished writing I realized it was in the wrong category and I had no time to change it. Also I talked about like the Tuskegee airmen. How much would this hurt my score? I talked to my teacher and he said as long ad I write something about the topic I can get at least a 3. I was wondering what you guys thought.

Yeah, they’ll probably just give you a 3 on it. Hopefully, you did well on the other FRQ, DBQ, and the MC, and that can make up for the one bad FRQ.

What? The prompt was about comparing and contrasting both of them…

I’m confused what you are trying to say.

I made a mistake on #5 too. I mentioned Garrison, when it was clearly out of the time period.

Do you think you did well on the DBQ and MC? If you’re sure you did really well on those plus the other FRQ, I would be you’re fine and would still get a 3 overall, if not a 4. One FRQ isn’t weighted as heavily as the DBQ.

The grading goes like this:
DBQ: x/9 * 4.5
FRQ: x/9 * 2.75 for each one
Add to MC score, convert on 1-5 scale, which an estimated scale for that would be on the CB website. I didn’t take the APUSH exam this year; I took it last year so I’m not sure what the exact 1-5 approximate curve is for this year.

Ok so like I think I did ok on Dbq but. I mainly used like tue documents for help regarding those documents that addressed the Vietnam war but with the whole watergate scandal part I did pretty well so it’s half an half. Also for the second frq I think I did really well on it so hoping to get more than a 5. But I heard that even though u think u did well on an frq, ur probably going to get 5. Is this true??

wait why is writing about rosa parks and mlk bad? don’t they work for the second time period?
i thought that the 1st time frame = DuBois and Booker T
2nd time frame = Malcolm X, MLK, Rosa Parks, Black panthers, etc…

right?

Ya but I wrote mlk and rosa parks for the first time frame accidentally…

What was the DBQ question? I hadn’t heard what the actual question was from people at school because we went into the AP Euro test room before the APUSH people were done, and we got done late after school too. Just wondering exactly what it was…interesting, love American history!

The topic was: compare and contest the American leaders and their strategies during the 1890s - 1920 and during the 1950-1960s

Ok, so that was one of the FRQs.

I’m interested to know what the DBQ was also.

The DBQ was the first thing my AP Euro teacher asked about today after the test and also the first thing my APUSH teacher asked me about after that last year!

Note: this is a FRQ question, not DBQ.

And the prompt was about GOALS and STRATEGIES. Not about the leaders themselves.

Are you saying you did something like: “In the 1920’s rosa parks…” ?

Right, I know this is an FRQ question. All I was saying is that I was curious to know what the DBQ was.

But yeah, they’ll give you some points for it if you messed up the historical period, but that is part of the grading that you show you understood the question. You’re probably not gonna get a 5 on the test, but could still get a 4 with really good MC, DBQ, and other FRQ, or a 4 with pretty good on everything else.

I didn’t say it was in the 1920s but I did include it in that category. Do u think I’ll get at least a 3?? Cause I’m not aiming for a 5 but I do really want a 4. But I did mess up a lot in the frq like a lot!!! Especially the first half of the question. Im freaking out but what do u guys think? 1 or 2 or 3 or 4?? What do the readers look for? Buy the Dbq was on Nixon and how he like administered the domestic and international situations

International/domestic challenges faced by Nixon administration from 68-74. Evaluate how he dealt with them.

If this FRQ was the only part that you really messed up on, but you think you did relatively well on the DBQ, the other FRQ, and MC, then yeah, I would think you should be able to get a 3. A 3 really isn’t tough to manage. It’s just 1 FRQ, which is 27.5% of the total essay stuff and about 13.75% of the total test.

Here is a link you should look at: <a href=“Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board”>Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board;

It is the approximation of the curve for the 2011 test, based on old tests and changing those so you can approximate your 2011 score with the MC scoring change. Play around with numbers of what you think you got on other things, and match that up to the 1-5 curve listed on there. It should give you an idea based on numbers, rather than me or someone else just saying “yeah you could get a 3” and you can see how it all gets calculated out.

@314159265- that’s an interesting DBQ question, they’re getting more modern with them it seems. Last year it was on Puritans stuff.

Well when I said 3 I meant like my frq score not my final score haha. Cause I need at least a 3 as my frq score and do u think I can get a 3/4 on the frq even though I messed up??

Um, I would think they would give you something for trying. It will probably depend on how well you analyze the information, even though it’s the wrong time period. If you analyzed it well, they would probably give you a few points, so like a 3. I wouldn’t count on much more than that though. But like I said, go try that link and plug in different numbers. Even try plugging in a 0 for that FRQ just in case and judge the best you can on what else you got to get an idea of your final score. I don’t know if this is your first AP test- remember they won’t actually tell you what you got on each FRQ or anything- all you will see is the 1-5 scale.

If I remember I might ask my APUSH teacher from last year and see if she knows. Actually, my old AP Gov teacher from sophomore year now teaches US History and has been an AP Reader for APUSH, I bet he would know. I don’t see him a lot, but if I do, I’ll try to remember to ask him, or my old APUSH teacher. She tends to know quite a bit about the AP test. I have to go talk to her next week quickly about something else anyways, and sometimes it just gets way off topic anyways when I talk to her- last year, I came in for 1 question once, and it ended up being over 45 minutes just chatting, so I’ll try to ask if I remember, so you can have another opinion of some people who might actually know, rather than me just making my best guess on it.
