Apush frq

Last year (2011) i took the APUSH Exam. Although i already know my score, i just have a quick question about the frq. For the frq’s, is it necessary (crucial) to write a conclusion paragraph? I remember my teacher saying that it would be great if you could, but it is not necessary. And from that, on the day of the exam, i remember not writing a conclusion paragraph for any of my frq’s… i think (maybe i did write it for the dbq but i really don’t remember) First of all, i am a slow thinker and i write really messily, so i was doing my best to write as neat as possible. So technically, i ran out of time. But my battle plan was to write all the necessary info first (intro and bodies) and then go to the next frq. And if i had time, i would’ve went back to write my conclusion.

Anyway, can anybody answer my question (which is, in short): Did i really need a conclusion paragraph for my apush frq?

Thanks :)

Not necessarily. AP readers know you are given only a limited amount of time. As long as enough information is there in the body paragraphs, no a neat conclusion to tie it all up is not necessary, but would still be nice. Just make sure you had plenty of content within your essay so your readers know that you know what you’re talking about and that you are converse on the topic! (more or less!)

I hope you got a good score!

Haha thanks!! Actually i did a lot better than i expected (a 5!!! I flipped out the day i opened that letter) But that’s what confused me. I did not write any conclusions for my frq and got a 5! And the funny part was that i thought that i was always a bad writer. i was got an average of 4’s on my essays in school.

Btw, would this be true for the sat/act essay?
