Hi,
I am a junior and am participating in a dual enrollment program this year where I take my classes at the junior college instead of the high school. I thought that this would be pretty challenging but I have realized that they are not as challenging as I expected. I'm pretty bored in them and would like to take a class where I can learn more. It's too late to get into AP classes at the high school so I was thinking I'd like to take an online AP class such as AP US History from Apex Learning or UCCP. I'm not sure if one program is better than the other and was hoping that you guys could describe your experiences with online AP classes. Basically, I'm wondering if the classes were challenging enough and prepared you well for the AP test? I also can not tell from the websites if the classes are self-paced or not. I assume they are because they are online classes but am I starting too late to be done in time for the AP test?
Thanks in advance!

BUMP, anybody have ANY experiences with online AP classes (especially AP US History)???

I've taken a few APs online (US history and Economics:Micro and Macro) but I did it through Virtual High School. I was DEFFIDENTLY prepared for the test. The work I had was just as rigorous as my other APs, if not more because I was doing it on my own time. The best thing I got out of taking APs online was learning how to budget my time to get all my work done without teachers setting daily assignments (VHS has weekly assignments and reading lists). I liked I a lot.

I'm taking AP U.S. History right now through UCCP. It's funny you asked specifically about that course. Overall, I like the experience. I feel that I am learning a lot, and I'm absorbing the material. It's nice because the people taking it at my school are all failing and they have to cheat on all their quizzes. Needles to say, I'm glad I took the online route. The course is self-paced. My instructor gives us work and it is usually due on Sundays by midnight. We have textbook reading (usually 2-3 chapter), multimedia lessons, lecture notes, DBQs, free-response questions, writing assignments, map activities, and discussion board questions to answer. It can be a bit overwhelming if you don't stay on top of things, but for the most part, it's pretty simple. I like it because taking it online forces me to understand/memorize the material. I don't have anyone else to help me or give me the answers; I'm on my own. Therefore, I ingest and retain the information better. I feel that I will be prepared for the AP Exam in the spring, especially with some additional review on my own. Also, toward the end of the course, we have an AP workshop where we take practice exams, ask questions, get hints and tips, etc. I highly recommend it. But, I believe all the start dates have already passed. I think the last one was last week. I started on August 15th and I currently have an A+ in the course. Good luck! :)

It let me register today for the class that supposedly started September 19th, so I think I will call them and check to make sure it's ok. Thanks for the input on the online courses, I'm really hoping that I will be able to get into the UCCP AP US course.

Any one have any experience with UCCP Ap Computer Science or AP Micro/Macroeconomics?
Recommend any other online institutions?
Also would these coruses replace my high school classes or are these simply extra work classes. Thanks in Advance!

wait wats the online website that u go to to take ap courses???

I think it's easier to just but the textbook and self study.

I just did AP U.S. History through Apex. It's pretty simple and there's a lot of material if you want it, but not everything is required. This is good if lots of study sheets don't help you that much. If you work well on your own and don't want to listen to a teacher repeating questions 30,000 times, this course is really good. I learned a lot and I could do the hard but not overbearing work on my own time.

i've done algebra 2, precalc, pe, and AP us govt.... you learn a lot... but your grades are jacked up cause there is no such thing as extra credit, so grade inflation is eliminated... for AP us govt, i ended up with a high B (88/89ish, so depressin...)but i def killed the AP exam... you are made to learn everything in the course, so you cover everything, something you might not be able to do in a traditional classroom (i took them FLVS, florida virtual school)
