APUSH or German 3/4

My son will be a HS junior next year and there is a scheduling conflict for his classes. I will save space and confusion and just keep it simple. He is registered for both APUSH and German 3/4. Both courses are offered only once during the school year, and at the same time. Therefore, he cannot take both. He has the option of changing APUSH to Honors USH or skipping German in 11th grade and taking it in 12th grade (but if he did that, he wouldn't be able to take AP German.) He would like to go to a Tier 2 college and he gets all As and Bs in his classes (honors level.) He will have 3-4 AP classes when he finishes HS (not including APUSH.)

What would you recommend he do? Take APUSH (give up AP German) or German 3/4 (take Honors Hist instead of APUSH)?

Which is his stronger subject?

He likes history more, but german is easier. He gets As in both.

What direction is he leaning in regards to college majors?

He’s been talking about drafting/architecture recently. No defined passion at this point.

I’d lean towards taking AP US History and away from the AP German. A fourth year of German is probably not that important for Tier 2 colleges. However, many of your child’s peers will have completed AP US History. Another option - - self study the German along with the AP US History so that AP German is a possibility in the senior year.

Thanks, kid!

Any other opinions out there?

He has already invested some time acquiring basic German language skills. One’s ability to learn a language does not improve with age, nor is it a good idea to have a gap in between years of study. If it is all about college admission, maybe the APUSH is the way to go, but I think getting to some ability level in the German has more value overall.
