APUSH or Spanish 4

I don’t want to take a year off spanish/ take it online but I’ll have to take US history honors with it. I have no interest in APUSH but I’m hurting my class rank.

I agree that taking a year off Spanish wouldn’t be a good thing. Have you though about taking the course online?

@swissmontenegrin Yes, but I think my conversational skills would be lacking.

Unless you are to become the valedictorian / salutatorian, I wouldn’t worry too much about class rank even if there are awards presented to the top students. I’ve always wished I took classes that would be more beneficial to me rather than loading up on APs in high school because you have to pay for those classes or they take up too much space in your college schedule later on.

But APUSH is still a great course in terms of college credit because it counts as 2 semesters of history for me and got me out of the US History GE in college.

If I were you, I would take Spanish 4. You said that you don’t want to take a year off of Spanish, so I wouldn’t. It will really hurt losing the information that you already learned, plus you’d have to spend a lot of time relearning that information. You also said that you have no interest in taking APUSH. If you do end up taking APUSH instead, you could have a lot of difficulty in that class, which would only bring your overall GPA down. What if you don’t pass the AP exam? The AP exams aren’t cheap. AP classes can be time consuming and exhausting. I took APUSH last year, and it was a lot of work (not difficult, but a lot of work nonetheless). Unless you’re #1 or #2 in you entire class, class rank is not that important. I say Spanish 4, not APUSH.

I agree with the post above.

Great colleges require at least 4 years of a foreign language. Guide yourself according to that.

I agree with @LionKing2398. The gap would be hard to overcome (it’s summer, and I can’t even remember some of the grammar concepts I learned in Spanish 3 two months ago), and taking APUSH seems pointless, since you don’t like the subject anyway.
