Apush vs. Sat ii us history

I truly don’t intend to boast at all, like many others on CC, but in your honest opinion, what looks more attractive.

AP: 5

or SAT II US: 790

I was thinking about it, and was wondering this: Can i assume that many of the kids who took APUSH also took the SAT subject USH, or is that a stretch.

I understand that maybe, as a RAW multiple choice score, a 760 and above would perhaps indicate a 5 (for most, not all). Would that possibly mean that a 780-800 would indicate an extraordinary knowledge of the material? or not? What is your opinion

I don’t know what you mean by “looks more attractive” lol but a 5 can get you farther. Like you said, 780-800 shows exemplary knowledge of the material, however, most colleges don’t offer course credit for SAT II performance. But a lot of institutions will free you from certain classes for your 5!

And yeah you can assume that a lot of APUSH kids took the SAT II.

on an application, to colleges

You might as well send them both. They’re both good scores and colleges would expect to see AP/SATII scores if you took APUSH.

I got 5 and 800 teehee :p

Unfortunately, the College Board website is currently undergoing some maintenance, so I can’t give you the exact percentiles right now, but I believe that a score of 800 on the SAT II exam in United States History is in the 98th (or 96th, I don’t really remember) percentile; I’m sure that a 790 is not too far from that percentile. A 5 on the AP exam places an individual in the top 11% percent of test takers (or thereabouts), so I would imagine that a 790 is actually more impressive.

However, I think that SAT II scores and AP scores fulfill two different purposes, so I doubt that they would be compared against each other in the manner you imagine. The only time there would be some concern, I believe, is if there were some great disparity between the AP and SAT II scores.
