As i rising senior im now reading alot of stuff on CC, and am realizing how different my APUSH class is at my school to everyone else.

Basically my class was taught by our social-studies department chair, a women in her mid-70's who most of the student regard as a near-genius. The class was conducted in a way i have never experianced before, almost all of our learning was done outside of class.

Every night we would read a chapter of either zinn, bidner, spirit, or michener and have a quiz every day, we would then have chapter tests on bailey about twice a month. Our classtime was spent essentially being lectured on life lessons and doing practice essays, we never did any learning in class.

To me it seemed like an odd system but over the years very few people have recieved less than 4 on the exam and around half usually recieve 5's so it seems to work, i was just wondering if anyone elses classes were conducted like this?

We also had to ensure one of the toughest reasing regimes i have ever seen, our summer reading consisted of:
Tales of the South Pacific- Michner
Hawaii- Michner
Texas- Michener
Centennial- Michener
Chesapeake- Michener
The Jungle- Sinclair
All But My Life-Weissman
Breadgivers- Yezierska
Comming of Age in Mississipi- Moody

During the year:
American Pageant- Bailey
People History- Zinn
American Spirit v1 and 2- Kennedy
The Way We Lived v. 1 and 2- Binder

whoaaa. our apush class was a 'joke' compared to yours. We had a test every ~4-5 days, but we didn't have to read ANY of those literary works. Our teacher told us about them and encouraged us to read it, but it's not like anyone did, haha.. It was so easy to get an A in that class cos our teacher was really lenient and gave away extra credit like candy. This hurt us when the actual AP test rolled along in May because we were all spoiled and didn't 'study' our way through. Ironically though, despite all the extra credit, there are so many people w/ Ds and Fs. This is probably because there aren't any prereqs and so a lot of people take the class.

@ctguy- did you get an A though? your class seems really intense!

You're class is crazy. Most people could just read AMSCO and get a 5.

We had tests every month or so and papers every couple of weeks.

im hoping i just barely scrapped by an A, we should get our final grades in about 3 weeks. I got a c+ the 1st quarter because i wasnt prepared at all for the amount of work we did, but i got A's the next 3.

lol i didnt read a page out of any book for that class this year and got an A... my teacher just lectured and i slept, everyday... the weekend before the ap test i read rea and im pretty confident that i got a 5

Hell, I self-studied and I probably got a 5. I'll see in July.

Way too much work. I just went over a textbook and a bunch of previous AP Exams.
