<p>I'm a freshman at Georgetown thinking of transferring to Swat. This year I've been taking Arabic and I want to keep it up, but I notice on the website that Swat doesn't even have an Arabic or Islamic Studies dept.--is it possible to take Arabic courses?</p>

<p>Swarthmore has a new Islamic studies program that is being developed in partnership with Bryn Mawr and Haverford. </p>

<p>For now, first-year Arabic and second-year Arabic courses are listed under the Swarthmore religion department. I think this is the third year they have been taught.</p>

<p>In addition to the Mellon funding referenced in the Phoenix article, Swarthmore has recently received two additional $1 million gifts towards a target $5 million endowment for the Islamic studies program. Here's a bit more information:</p>
