Which major is harder to get into, Architecture or archtectural engineering?
Architecture projected acceptance rate 32% while Architectural Engineering is 49%. Also as a prospective Architecture major, you will need to submit a portfolio but not for Arch Eng.
Based on our experience, there isn’t a portfolio requirement for Cal Poly SLO architecture applicants, at least not for freshman applicants coming straight out of high school.
Perhaps it’s different for transfer applicants?
My mistake. You are correct Freshman do not have submit a portfolio but transfers do.
@cabsfo, the real question is what do you want to do?? Architecture and architectural engineering are SO different. I was an ArchE major at UT-Austin. I had to take a couple of architectural design classes, I guess to better understand what architects do. Ack, I was horrible at it! I scraped by with a B and a C.
You need to decide if you want to design how a building LOOKS, or do you want to design how it stands up? Architects are more artistic - engineers are more scientific. You might want to job shadow an architect and a structural engineer.
I know for sure that I want to do architectural engineering. I was just curious because one of my friends wants to do architecture, and we don’t know which major is more competitive since they don’t list the admitted stats for each major specifically
