I was wondering how good the program at Tulane is for undergraduate architecture. I know they have gotten attention from the media through the Sundance Channel show Architecture School, but I have not seen Tulane on the DI list in recent years...

I don’t know a lot about the architecture program except that my roommate sophomore year was in the program. He partied a lot 3/4 of the semester then spent 24/7 in the architecture building doing his projects the last 4 weeks. I have heard varying opinions as to whether this is fairly typical of architecture students everywhere, but I digress.

I found this thread from earlier this year, and it has some interesting info. Might help a little.

Thanks! I’ll look into it. I know they have a good Outreach program, so that may actually be enough for me.

Just for my info (and I guess others that read this), what does that mean, the “Outreach program”?

It’s the URBANbuild program they have where they partner with local NO housing services to build homes for NO neighborhoods. It’s the program featured in “Architecture School.” Community outreach is important to me, is all.

Oh, that’s great. Thanks.

After a tour/interview at the architecture school I was impressed with the program and students. However, the turn-off was the person that did the tour/interview (my child was already accepted) asking the group where they were applying and going on to find every and any negative reason why they should not go there. My belief is you sell your own program without putting down others whether it be a school, product or belief.
We have had a hard time getting past that and child decided it might not be the place for her because of that tour.

I agree with you completely mw4hsk, and it would be great if you would e-mail the admissions office and tell them of your experience. Was this a student to whom you are referring?

No, it was a person in the Architecture Department -Associate Dean. They do their own tours too. At the proper time we will make sure that someone knows of this. I did not even bring it up to our child, but shortly after leaving the tour/interview our child brought it up to us. That says a lot when a child notices something like this.

Indeed - I guess all I can say is this must be why he went into architecture and not marketing, or international relations, lol. I can only say that Tulane is a wonderful place and I hope you and your child don’t let one person’s lack of tact in expressing his pride about Tulane overly color your decision. I wish your child the best of luck!
