Architecture: Cal Poly SLO vs. Berkeley

So I recently got accepted to these colleges and I'm having a really difficult time choosing which program would be best for me. Helppppp. D;

Both are going to give you very credible degree. Cal is a much larger and more prestigious school - it is the easy choice - if you are comfortable there. If you prefer the academic environment at SLO - go there instead.
Attend the admitted student days and see what you think.

Congrats! Both have an amazing architecture program, you can’t go wrong selecting one over the other. Visit both and see which environment you would prefer.

Agreed. Go where you are happiest and can best afford. You can’t go wrong either way.

Note the difference in architecture majors:

Berkeley’s BA is a 4-year degree program that is not NAAB-accredited, but can be a starting point for doing an NAAB-accredited MArch (master’s) degree program (which is a 2-year degree program at Berkeley).

CPSLO’s BArch is a 5-year degree program that is NAAB-accredited.

I agree with BlueF30. Both schools are great for architecture. Congrats!

You may want to compare the curricula in more detail. It does look like CPSLO is the faster track to an NAAB-accredited degree, but Berkeley may have more elective options and better options if you choose to switch to another major (except engineering majors or business, which are hard to switch into).

Cal Poly slo is 1st
conell is 2nd
rice is 3rd

CalPoly was recently named #1 for architecture in the country. http://www.sanluisobispo.com/2013/11/09/2773919/cal-poly-architecture-program.html</a>
So anyone saying Cal is “more prestigious”…ok, in terms of what? In terms of architecture, CalPoly is more prestigious.
