Architecture?

ohh...yeah, are you done your essays?

like i was rejected at Yale last year, and i'm reapplying this year. i didn't send them my school-leaving certificate exam results last year - that was a grave error. i'm doing that now. also got a-level, i self-studied [notso good tho] and hopefully, better sat scores [which i think they value most esp when dealing with intls. it brings you to the spotlight] all that with several enrichment activities...

you know i have abhorrible EC's? although i am actually quite confident in my portfolio...i don't know if i could make up for it~

i don't really know about yale...i'm sure it's excellent, but how does it compare with a b.arch from cornell or cooper to an employer?

almosttttt.....you'll see them in an hour, i'm just putting finishing touches...
does it make sense to include the 2week work experience or just leave it out?

when the prompt says 'an experience', does it mean a short momentous experience or a long term thing, like school experience or something of the sort?

i don't know... i am supposing it could be short/long, as long as it's an experience. i have this problem...i wonder if you could gimme some advice. my counselor hates me, and he hates me for no valid reason, but i know he can make up something to put on cornell's school report....what should i do??? ahhhh~

you could just leave it with him and trust that everything will be fine, or if possible, look for another school official with access to your records and who knows you well to fill it.

cornell still remains my first choice...

you know, he didn't even allow me to leave it with him today..he just make me leave~

just pray, it's okay.

hey for new viewers: This is a thread by and for architecture enthusiasts. Share your aspirations, frustrations, preparations, and all other -nations you can think of.

got to catch some shut-eye. be back in 4hours or tomorrow.

im a yr 12, thats grade 11 in US and Canada, studying in a british school, so i study A-levels and it isnt compulsory to do physics, but im worried i wont do well in AS or A-level physics. its two years to complete A-level. the other subjects im taking are history, f. maths and art. i have a week to decide whether or not im gonna change physics to another subject, possibly psychology althought i dunt think it will be very useful for architecture unless i wanna decide the colour or sth of the building...im planning to apply to cornell and risd...

physics is definitely worth it i think...i think people will have to do intro phys first year, so if you get advanced credit that's even better~
for RISD there are three drawings that you have to do, and i think it is extremely difficult and time-consuming....and it needs TOEFL regardless of SAT i think, so will you take the TOEFL?

bneg, thanks, that was a fantastic review. i've emailed you.

how far've you gone with your g.c.?

bneg, thanks, that was a fantastic review:) i've emailed you on that.

how far've you gone with your g.c.? are you taking I.B., cos i guess everyone in Canada does it.

no, i don't take IB..my school does not offer it. i have not solved anything with my g.c., but i am feeling a lot more comfortable....i am not going to let that part of the app take over me...i will take over IT....i will make it diminish. hahaha, i sounded so 'evil'. i think i have found some peace in prayer.

yeah, you'll take over.

RISD has no aid for internationals...

Jrock, how did the Camras scholarship selection go for you last year?

It was a fleeting 3-day weekend experience. i don't of any other intl students who attended except a girl from Romania. I got there on a blazing cold Friday afternoon at 2 pm or thereabouts. I was feeling so dazed and desultory, as that was my first time ever flying away from home........
Saturday was the interview. We were generally excited and somewhat apprehensive. Each person was allocated, etc.

There were so many people for architecture so some of us, like me, had to interview with another man who in the civil eng. dept, specifically dealing with safety in buildings. I must have done poorly, cos immediately I entered his office, he burst into a string of French. I was not expecting it and I couldn't answer. From my app, he'd seen I could speak french. But here I was, not living up. Anyways, first question was, 'What does architecture mean to you?' he also talked about safety in buildings; skyscrapers; anything i had built with my own hands that i could speak about; what religion meant to me cos i put 'so help me God' in my essay; about ethno-religious crisis in my country; my strengths and weaknesses, etc.

At a point, my interviewer said, 'Okay, you sound like you know what you are saying, blah...but I need something to convince me...' Hey, this guy was giving me a flat-out chance to go for the kill and land the pitch! I don't think I made the most of that opportunity. Anyway, he said he appreciated the fact that i came all the way from Nigeria for the interview and wished me luck.

Truth is that, for many of us, the interview was the least of our troubles, since we'd been assured that, no matter what, our 9,000 bucks would go up. We actually concentrated on exploring IIT and Chicago and it was a wonderful experience. i went on a tour at the school of arch. - the Crown building. We say tbe studios and lab and exhibitions. It was cool...

Anyway, I got 12,000 dollars. Most of us got 12,000 dollars. Though some may have got it, I don't know of anyone who got the full 21,000 bucks. There were so many of us...and you know the whole thing is subject to the availability of funds. So the bar goes up.

sorry, i got to go to meet with another GC now. i'll come back in 30 min. max. sorry!

hi-18, are you taking a-level next year or in 2007? eitherways, you must have taken the O'level or the IGCSE? i like your subject choice tho' but are you allowed to take four? if that's the case, physics would be a lovely addition as bneg has said. you're not doing math?

oh no problem bneg, i'm also out myself. may be back soon or tomorrow. feeling sleepy, off to catch 40 winks!

wow sounds exciting! i guess Camras may not be that promising afterall...i am sort of giving up on IIT and UT austin. I don't know if i should continue because I am not sure about the employment rate of arch grads at IIT, and also how much money I couldpossibly get from UT austin.... do you think i should still apply?
