everyone at IIT gets the jobs even before they get out. there are many firms in Chicago waiting to employ the graduates as soon as they complete their degree. It's worth applying to IIT. You've got nothing to lose...

[haven't slept all night. backlog tomorrow. soon to bed.]

during the stopover at amsterdam, i saw the romanian girl. both of us were en route to chicago. like me, that was her first time flying and since she was spending only 3 days, i instinctively guessed she was bound for camras. we exchanged several glances but didn't say a word. shadowed each other to IIT, where we finally spoke. though we arrived chicago same time, i missed the IIT shuttle and had to part with 33 bucks for a taxi drop.

well..i guess i should try. i am losing my enthusiasm of applying to schools. i guess i'll start on texas and IIT tommorow! jrock, how are you going to print out your PF? transfer it to WORD and then print? i don't know why mine is turning out fuzzy...more work to do~

what program did you use to produce it? i use corel draw. you can then print it page by page. better still, convert everything to PDF and print. pdf is much much better and faster. it's a really frustrating process - the whole thing. cos after doing the portfolio itself, the challenging part is getting it in print. could take many hours. are you using an inkjet? and at best quality, optimised dpi?

i have no idea, i'll need to bring it to a store to print it...it'll cost like 1$/page and i have 40 pages for one PF!!! i wonder if there's somewhere cheaper. i use fireworks, and i don't even know how to transfer it to pdf... it's ok, i'll just use word..

did you scan the pieces? if you did, they'll look good on the monitor, but on paper, they'll be quite fuzzy. use photopaint [coreldraw] to enhance the scanned images - sharpen, and brigten/contrast/darken, they'll come out lovely.

if you have a digicam or can borrow, it'll be better to photograph them. you'll get better results.

wow, 40 pages! mine wouldn't be more than 20. is it that you have that number of pieces or some subjects take more than one page? so 40 bucks for 1 pf. how many are you getting printed? that's some dough

recount: 34, it's just that for it to 'flip' more nearly i have to insert something in between like sketches, intros, blah blah blah. this is also why i'm not considering IIT! hahaha...

no printer at home here now. couldn't lug the inkjet from Nigeria. so if a new printer comes before i'm ready to print, i'll do max 4800x1200 opt dpi. but if it doesn't [which is more likely] i'll do it at my mum's office with their laser printer - think that's faster and more efficient. if you could get a laser to do the job it'll be much lighter. the inkjet does a really heavy job and it bleeds through if the paper isn't thick enough.

yep i finished my GCSEs in may/june 2005 some were good and some were bad and i dunno y though it could be cuz i was sick at the end of yr 10/grade 9 and so i missed lessons. i think im redoing english language though cuz that was my worse grade.

at my school, they hav this GCSE grade point average thing and i was recommended to do four subjects so i'm doing further maths [which means i can have 2 A-levels at the end of year 13 if i choose to continue it in year 13], art, history and physics. I'm currently in year 12 btw.

ahhh is it true universities in US for architecture aren't physics-orientated and look more at creativity and stuff? and would they prefer a good grade in psychology or some other subject than a bad grade in physics or the other way around? cuz im terrible at explaning physics stuff but im good at maths = ="

and so, its a must for me to do toefl regardless of SATI or if i get my school to write a letter to exempt me?

the toefl can only be waived if you have good CR/Writing scores and you apply for the waiver. but then, the us embassy may - as is often the case - require it for your interview.

i'd rather you do physics but if yu're exceptionally good at psych, do both. As far as I know, American universities emphasize every aspect, not just a part.

but hey, if you're doing art in a-level, you must have a stunning portfolio!

what's the requirement in your country, i mean in the a-level. What's the minimum number of points/grades that can get you into uni in your country. I got a U in my furthermaths.

if one is planning to retake a subject, can one just register for that single subject or have to do everything all over?

thanks. i'm even thinking of doing french rather than f-maths. but as i said earlier, is maths not basic? even if you're doing further maths, maths is still something you'd want to have on your result. just an extra 'A'.

wow, i'm only doing chem/math IIC/Phys. Possibly Lit, but i'll wait and see my score. i *would take Mandarin, but since most people get 800 i don't think it's worth it~ Also Jrock, i was confused about 4800 X 1200 because mine is only 96 dpi; it gives a very detailed image in the program, but word makes it fuzzy ( i think reverting it back to 72). maybe i'll try PDF...

oh no. i suck at CR/Writing...i live in HK, but im canadian and i go to an international school. so u hav to be really bad or sth to not get into HKU, which is one of the best in HK. and apparently, this teacher who helps with uni application in UK said that HKU wants international students and the teacher who actually does uni applications for unis in Hong Kong said that they can write a waiver for us saying that english is our first language and stuff, and since i want to do architecture the subjects i chose so far is good for it. there is only that language requirement thing, so i guess i hav a pretty high chance of going to HKU. where are you guys from?

to do one full A-level, you hav to do 6 units. for maths u hav to do 6 units, for f. maths u hav to do 12 units. these units are basically exams, which u prolli know already, and u can juz redo the units which u get bad scores for. and i THINK but im not sure u can re-arrange to get the highest marks, but that i think u will need to check.

i guess i wont change then, cuz i dunt know how psycho is useful for architecture and i dunt want to quit history cuz i like it. i still got 6-7 days to decide =P french is good. i would've taken french if it wasnt for this french teacher who taught me in my GCSE years. cuz i cant pronounce stuff right she would glare at me and then at parents evening she would tell my mum that i dunt speak in class. = ="

i'm planning to do SATII french in dec. world history in jan. maths IIC sometime and SATI in may/june. physics depending on how i do so far in my AS-level. i did SATI in may/june this yr but i was only grade 11 and i got really bad for verbal stuff. this is my plan so far. but it might change cuz i juz found out that i can actually apply to RISD this year. =]
