On the may SAT Biology-M I got a 710. I want to retake this test in october with Math IIC. However, I'm also considering taking Chemistry, but I'm not that great at it. Does it matter at all if I take chemistry, or can I just completely rule it out?

All colleges that require subject tests require two. Those that recommend but do not require subject tests generally recommend two except for Georgetown and Johns Hopkins which recommend 3. Those are the only two colleges in the nation that recommend three. Unless you are applying to those two colleges, two is enough. Note if applying for engineering or science, many of the colleges that require subject tests require a math and science (thus if you are considering taking Chemistry rather than math that may be an incorrect choice)

Except for less than a handful of schools that require SAT2, two are enough. However, there are still different preferences in looking at the scores. Some schools may have subject preference for certain subjects (e.g. for CoE). Some schools would look at the highest 2 subject scores if you submit more than 2. Some schools requires 2 but would like to see more. Many schools only recommend SAT2 without requirement. For most schools, having 2 good score is enough.

Say for elite schools, even though most only require 2 should I take three to show that I’m strong in all 3 subjects?

If you are planning to apply to the top-tier colleges, you really only need to take 2 Subject tests. Save your money and time. Really.

That being said, if you want to put your best foot forward during the application process, you should take tests in your strongest subjects and ensure that the scores which you submit are as close to 800 as possible.

The colleges which require 3 have already been mentioned in this thread.

Please verify the info in this thread by checking the specific standardized testing requirements for each college to which you’ll be applying. There may be differences among them…and the requirements at a specific school may change from year to year.
