For international student, hoping to get good financial aid? Will it be any kind of disadvantage if I have only 2 subject tests (assuming they'll be 700+)?

It depends on the colleges you’re applying to. Most colleges only require two subject test, and some don’t require them at all. If you’re planning on applying to highly selective colleges I would try to take 3 subject tests so you’re on par with other applicants. However, for most other schools you should be fine with 2 subject tests as long as they’re in different subjects.

I’m applying to colleges which offer good financial aid for internationals, so they are the top ones. I know they require two, but will having just two SATs be viewed kinda lame? (comparing to other applicants to this type of school)

Which two tests are they?

I don’t think so! Two seems fine in my books.

World History and Biology E.

Two is fine for every college that requires or recommends SAT IIs except for Georgetown and Johns Hopkins which recommend three (and those are the only two that request three). The only issue you have is whether you have the correct two. For almost all majors for colleges that require IIs you are fine; however, if you are applying for engineering, and for some colleges science, you are often required to submit a math and a science as your two.

You are fine with two. But if you have the time, take more and then send the two highest.

bump anyone else?

I think you’re fine just taking those two tests (as long as you get high scores) because history and science are two very different topics, showing that you can excell in a variety of fields.

Why don’t you list off a couple of schools that you’re planning to apply to? That would give us a good idea about how many you may or may not need.

Also, if you’re an international and require financial aid, admissions will be much more difficult if schools aren’t need-blind. Just a heads up since it puts you down at the bottom of the pool of people that they might want to pick.

I will be applying for financial aid, so schools in my list are mostly the top ones.

Hope you have stellar stats then, the schools of that caliber (need blind and full need) are all crap shoots. I’m assuming schools you’re talking about are along the lines of HYP, Darthmouth, MIT, etc. They get too many superb applicants and so I would recommend a third to keep on par with applicants. Also I hope you’re not looking only at those schools as they’re all competitive and unless you excel in just about everything, chances are tough, especially for internationals. Best of luck.

Of course I have other colleges to apply to (the ones with 25-45% acceptance rate and I know it’s way lower for internationals seeking FA).

So you guys recommend 3 subject tests. Any clues about what constitutes a good score for subjects?
