My ePal is not complete, and it says everything on it is currently only an estimate. Does this mean I still have a chance to receive some sort of merit scholarship?

Generally for freshmen all UCLA scholarships are need-based. There are merit-based scholarships for soph/juniors/seniors. Pretty much everybody that comes to UCLA has really good stats so I think they want to see what you can do once you get here for merit scholarships.

Somebody I know has 5k in the gift-aid section for “scholastic excellence”.

^ Gift aid is need-based financial aid, not merit aid.
According to my provisional aid award letter, they currently “do not have any information on scholarship eligibility,” meaning they haven’t finished processing/deciding on scholarship applications yet.

Yes, that’s a need based award.

Alright thanks guys. I just have one more question, can I expect anything with a 29,000 EFC oos.

^^

LMAO. You can expect a check for $0. Good luck with that lol…

has the alumni scholarship already been decided as well

I got a “Scholarship Recognition Award” for $4719 and the David Simon scholarship for $6200 during the summer. I have no idea what the criteria are for these awards. However, I’m pretty the Scholarship Recognition Award was because I’m a Regent’s Scholar and so they had to fill in the gap between the grants, etc. that I got and my EFC so they just lumped it in there.

Scholarship Recognition Award is just UCLA’s generic need based aid. You don’t necessarily need to be a Regents Scholar to get it (I wasn’t; I got it), but I would guess that most Regents Scholars with low EFC do get it their first year when they don’t qualify for other grants.
