Are apps to a certain college considered separately from apps to other colleges?

Like, does only the College of Engineering read all the applications applying to the College of Engineering?

So would two people applying to Cornell from the same high school but to different colleges ever be compared by the admissions officers?

I’m pretty certain each college does its own admission and there is no centralization of decisions at any stage.

each college has their own admission office and own criteria that they look for in applicants.

The two responses above pretty much got it right. Each of our seven undergraduate colleges has their own admissions office that handles the reading of applications and decision making. There is also the central Undergraduate Admissions Office which handles more of the administrative work during the admissions process.

Thanks,

In some cases, the admissions officers coordinate.

I’m aware of one case, where a student applied to CAS and received a response from Cornell that his application might be a better fit for ILR, and would he like to be considered for that school.

This is probably the exception, however.
