Are Asians considered minorities?

I mean, seriously.

Are we?

No. (10 chars)

Yes, but we're overrepresented so the effect is opposite of the one you want.

NOOOO

why.

Genetics.

roll eyes

But will me being female help?????

Female asian?

No, you'll need even higher scores than male asians to get into a good school (they usually expect girls to have higher GPA and SAT than boys).

No, they expect girls to be better at English????

girls have an advantage when it comes to science and engineering

asian is bad

Apply to a school that has too many boys. You will fare better there.

It depends on what schools you apply to. For some small Liberal Arts Colleges, Asians are considered under-represented minorities. Almost everywhere else they are considered over-represented minorities. a778999 is right; technological schools are male dominated and so, in an attempt to reach a 50-50 proportion, have much higher acceptance rates for females.

Asians are overrepresented by 15% in some schools. That means its going to be harder to get in than if you were white. Sorry.

At some LACs, yes.

^ Actually, that is an excellent point. Asians will have a tiny advantage at schools that are trying to diversify. Perhaps not the very top LACs, but certainly the ones slightly under the top 10 or 15 (that's a guess).

Wrong !^

Actually, it's very right. I've read a few direct quotes from admissions officers at good, but not highest tier LACs saying that they do, in fact, give a small boost to Asian applicants. Asians aren't overrepresented everywhere in the U.S.
