<p>i don't think they're smarter...they're just more driven and highly motivated to do well academically. there are so many asian supernerds who only know how to solve equations and not take care of themselves - would they be street-smart or life-smart? </p>

<p>a lot of people look at an asian taking a whole senior's courseload during junior or soph year as some kind of fantastic genius. but actually most of the time they get by through really hard work. they might not show it or complain about it either. my whole high school is full of these asians ;)</p>

<p>my turn to chime in.. asians are not inherently smarter. it's only a matter of values and upbringing. why do i think this? because it's only by hard work/studying that i get decent grades and test scores. i am quite aware that i'm not naturally smart/genius (and i'm asian)</p>

<p>though i do wonder, what's a jewish household like? do the parents stress education and good grades? from what i've seen, self-motivation is emphasized rather than parents forcing kids to succeed.</p>

<p>rheasilvia, though they are a religion. They are looked upon as the "Jewish" ethnicity. I mean how often do you see black, asian or hispanic Jews...Its like arguing anyone can be Amish....</p>

<p>Ashkenazi Jews ARE an ethnicity, and we compose of 80% of the worlds jews. Israeli's are about 18%, and others (probably converts) are roughly 2%</p>

<p>95% of american jews are ashkenazi(european). They are on average smarter than the average asian.</p>

<p>Inherently smart infers born that way...to even ask the question and trying to defend a "race"- and not even taking into account the dozens of different Asian groups, is racist and elitist. </p>

<p>To bulk together groups of people to elevate them above others is not right. There are so many cultural factors to take into account.</p>

<p>And, being the "top" in a school number wise, while an accomplishment, has nothing really to do with being "smart"- how smart is it to on;y focus on books, how smart is it to only focus on certain careers, etc</p>

<p>Smart and intellgence has many measures- getting straight A's is just one and as for life skills, ranks not in the top</p>
