So I'm in high school and i've recently been thinking of attending a boarding school (no idea really which yet) and I was wondering if there are party's you can attend outside of school, like could you leave for a weekend to go to a party. because I do want to have fun in highschool not focus entirely on academics and athletics.
Thanks I'm really curious :)

Boarding school students are typical high school students. How much fun you have is dependent upon how much fun you want to have.

Boarding school is fun at times and extremely Hell at other times. I go to a small boarding school with roughly 250 students in South Alabama. Let me give you the pros and cons of boarding school.

Let’s go with the pros first. Unlike ordinary high school, boarding school gives you the opportunity to meet people from different areas and social backgrounds. To be honest you realize that you take a lot for granted when you meet people who don’t have half of what you have. Boarding schools are also generally smaller, and therefore you know everyone on campus and it’s much easier to build extremely close relationships. On the weekends, many boarding school students (at least at my school) will sign out on the weekends and go visit old friends who graduated at their universities. So one of the greatest things about boarding school is because of the lifelong relationships you build, you’ll be invited to college parties and not just high school parties. Trust me, hs parties aren’t ■■■■ to college parties. Living on campus also allows you easier access to club meetings, hanging with friends if you don’t go somewhere on weekends, and night study groups for tests.

Now onto the cons, and although there are a lot of pros there are many cons. Sometimes boarding school will make you feel trapped. You may think you have freedom like you would in college before you actually come, but you then remember you’re still in high school. No sex, no drugs, no parties on campus or else you’re expelled. Generally boarding school is a lot more expensive than regular school, even private school. Many boarding schools don’t allow cell phones or computers, however at my school we can have cell phones on campus at all times. And at most if not all boarding schools, every time you want to walk off campus to the gas station, pharmacy, or McDonald’s, you must sign out and sign in every time and it gets annoying.

Now let me give you what I’ve gained from my last three years at boarding school. My school is surrounded by an 8-foot iron fence and is very small, but it is not a prison. After being here for three years, although I’m tired of being confined to this campus and I’m ready to graduate and go to Auburn, this experience has been the best of my life. I’ve made friendships that will last a lifetime, and my experience at college will be extremely easy because I’ve lived 6 hours away from home, I’ve actually had to study, and I’ve lived in a dorm. However, if given the opportunity to do this again I would not do it. It’s hard keeping your sanity when you’re confined to a campus with little freedom, and at times it makes you want to drive yourself over the edge. Skieurope was wrong when he said we are any ordinary high schoolers. Boarding school is a completely different scenario than regular commuter high school, and like I said before although it was the best decision I could have ever made if I was given the opportunity I would not do it again.

@BamaBaller95 I may have a different opinion than you, but that does not make me wrong. Your boarding experience is apparently different than mine, and I do not know which is more typical.

I go to a rather large boarding school in New England. My school, like most schools that I’ve encountered, allow you to have a computer and cell phone. Some schools will limit the times these can be used. We do not have to sign out to go to McDonald’s; we only sign out when we want to leave the town… Some students do sign out for the week-end; most do not. Our campus is not gated so there is never the sense of isolation or separation from the rest of the area.

As with every school, use of drugs or alcohol is not allowed, and results in disciplinary action. Sex happens. There are parties off-campus on the week-ends. Some go, some don’t. There’s still plenty to do here.

I agree that one of the best things is the friendships that I have made. I’ve met a number of people from all across the country and the world that I would not have been able to meet at mt local public or private school. I also agree that this has set me up for an easy adjustment to college life. If I had the opportunity to do it all over again, I would do it in a heartbeat.

@skieurope What is the cost of tuition and room & board at your school? All of our tuition and room & board is free, the only thing we have to pay is a $1,300.00 activities fee that covers our class trip and other field trips. I know some boarding schools the expenses can get up to $66k/year.

@Bamaballer95 Full freight is $47K. Half the students get FA, however.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT???
You are asking whether or not boarding schools are fun? I thought everyone dreamed of going to a boarding school!
Or is it just me…

@dsi411 Yeah haha me too, someone told me (who had never been to boardingschool) that it was horrible and all you do is study :)
