So I’ve read a lot about Brown and it seems like it’s pretty awesome. But I’ve also talked to a lot of kids who’ve either gone there or visited there and many of them have told me that the kids there are really pretentious and really just not nice. What’s the deal?

EDIT: OK, fine, but at least that many of them are.

This post makes me wanna ask....are YOU a pretentious jerk? What's the deal?

In any case, I don't know anyone who would classify any entire student body this way at any college. But surely this is not the typical description of kids at Brown. While one can't classify every single kid there in one fell swoop, Brown students come across as extremely friendly and not pretentious. I have a kid who goes there (she fits this description I just gave, by the way) and I KNOW she thinks the kids are like this....happy, friendly, accepting of all types, fun....loves the kids there. Just moving her in, kids on the hall were coming by the room to introduce themselves. Kids help each other and collaborate on schoolwork. Walking around campus, all types of kids from all sorts of backgrounds were coming up and hugging her after a summer apart. I have been around many Brown students and the ones I have met come across the opposite of the characterization that you gave. But I suppose "pretentious jerks" exist everywhere, even in your neck of the woods. Your friends who made this statement about the entire Brown student body....well, I won't characterize them. They went to Brown? Hmmm, the word on the street is that Brown students are a happy bunch and so you must know the disgruntled ones.

I've met a couple of pretentious people here. but they're not exactly jerks, and they're easy to avoid since all the ones I've met hang out together.
