Are "cal grants" (or any other financial aid) difficult/somewhat rare to receive?

[Edit] My mom just happened to arrive home and tell me why I was rejected which makes perfect sense.

Anyways if you want to skip to the question, just go to the bottom of the post.

I feel obligated to say that this is my day of actually making an account and posting a thread... so, hello. And to my main point:

Recently (today) I received an email regarding me not being able to get a Cal Grant. Personally, this is a large problem for me due to rising costs in attending college.

As far as I know, I meet most, if not all, of the requirements for one or more of the listed grants along with overall GPA being above 2.0. My family makes probably under $120K per year, which could be the reason, but still surprised me either way.

So now I'm curious. Do most people get a grant or no?

This was taken from the email sent to me:
"The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) has reviewed information from your FAFSA and GPA and determined that you will not be awarded a Cal Grant Entitlement award. For an explanation of your disqualification, please go to the WebGrants for Student (WGS) website located at www.webgrants4students.org. You can also download the "Disqualification Fact Sheet" from the WGS home portal which explains the reasons for disqualification."

Do most people get grants? Answers could pertain to any state.

Thank you very much.

Short answer: no, most people don’t get government grants. For CalGrants, you need to meet all the criteria.

Look at some private scholarships or grants. Oh, UCs do have Blue and Gold which is less restrictive than CalGrant.

I could be mistaken, but a family income of $120,000 or so would be well above the income threshold to receive the Calgrant or Blue and Gold.

Yeah, I remember filling out and submitting all of the required paperwork for a Cal Grant for our older daughter several years ago. We were rejected but there was no reason other than we did not meet the requirements. I did some poking around and I think I actually called to speak with someone. The requirement we missed was the household income limit, which by the way is not posted on any of their paperwork nor was it specified on their website (at least at the time). Hopefully they are much clearer now as it would save many from even bothering.

the cal grant is like one form though…not really a big hassle.

thumper is correct, $120,000 is far above the CalGrant or Blue and Gold income limits.
