I'm wondering how accurate of a representation CC'ers are in comparison to the rest of high schoolers. It seems like everyone on here is a genius, but yet people at my school are idiots. Are CC'ers the best of the best?

CC absolutely positively does not… represent the average high school student.

Does it represent the average student applying to the ivies?

Not sure how you could really determine that. I mean you can be and/or say anything here. You can inflate/deflate grades, scores, ecs, accomplishments, etc. There is no “proof” that anyone goes to a certain school or was accepted at a certain school.

You should look at cc as just another source to get info and judge for yourself.

I would say that most people on CC are going to represent some part of the top 10% of students in general. I say some part because there are some on here who seem to be like top 2, whereas others are closer to top 10. I would say of the like 500 high school students I know personally-and I am the only one on CC- I would be ranked like 13th(as far as ECs, grades, motivation and stats go)-but that is also kind of lopsided because half of those students I know through academic programs… There is a whole category of competitive high school students who are not on here, many are just way more chill. Weird but true. But overall, yes the kids on CC generally care a lot more than the other 90+% of high school students, so they will most likely have better stats. As far as the Ivies go…I wish I knew. I would assume yes.

In general though, I have learned that comparing yourself to everyone on CC will do you no good (and it can make the world seem very bleak at times… ), there is a lot that is very subjective and cannot really be seen on a quick chancing thread. Good test scores and a high gpa are not all that rare even in non CC land, and while they help a lot, they are not going to be what gets a certain person into a top school.

I think the only thing you can draw from CC students is that they are congregating on a site that offers info on competitive school admissions. Infer that and you’ll be fine. Also know that parents and alums who volunteer recruit hang out here as well.

The 1.7GPA dude who hangs out beneath the bleachers probably isn’t a typical user of CC.

No way. Considering the national ACT average is 18 or something like that and most people on here almost double that?

Someone who doesn’t care about school most likely is not on here for obvious reasons.

I would say CC’ers represent the people who truly care about their education.
For one, I’m not a genius. So that disproved what you were saying how everyone is a genius.
But I think everyone here cares a lot about a good education. Wow just repeated what I wrote -_-"

Normal.
But not average.

They are definitely above average. So above average, that the real world average (in terms of test scores, extracurriculars, etc.) all count as fails to them.

I think most CC-ers would be a bit above average. If their stats aren’t amazing, at least it means that they are very concerned about college and its admission process. Just be sure to keep in mind that most “chances” threads and other comments may be more harsh and reality may nicer than you think (but don’t get caught on that mentality either as you might get lazy other wise. Just keep it in the back of your head when you get feedback.)

Most CC’ers are hardly human, let alone normal.

^^ LOL.

OTOH, they have normal and even human parents, who have a lively CC thread of their own full of information about schools, and financial aid, for their non-genius children. You’re welcome to read. But be on your best behavior when posting.

I’m the only one I know from my HS that has even heard of this site.
