Late Orientation Date

Hello,

I was only able to schedule my orientation date for August, and I am worried that classes may be full by the time I get a chance to apply. How often is it that classes like math 126, physics 121 and cse 142 are full? And is there any way to make my chances of getting in there better? Thanks!

Phys 121 might fill up, but you probably won’t have trouble with math 126.

honestly, it doesn’t matter if any of the classes are full or not.

There are so many drop/adds the first week of the quarter that you can get into pretty much any class you want (as long as there aren’t prereqs you haven’t taken care of,etc) if you try hard enough.

Make it a priority to get into physics when you’re checking for adds/drops.

As long as you show up to the first week of class and talk to the professor/lecturer, you shouldn’t have any problem getting into classes EXCEPT physics because it’s a lab class and they only have so many lab stations. However, with classes like math or cse, you just show up to a classroom and don’t need to have a work station.

Don’t worry too much about having a late orientation date, but make sure you have a back up schedule for worst case scenarios :)

I register mid september lol.

I have a somehow similar problem.
My orientation is in a week, but the class that I’m required to take in my first quarter (intermediate accounting 1) is already full - every single section of it. Will they add additional sections by the time of my orientation?

Probably not, unless they get more teachers (and if needed, TAs). What do you mean by required? Usually if you absolutely have to take the class, chat with an advisor and he or she will pull strings and get you into the class. Otherwise, stalk the time schedule or request overload during your first week of class.

In one of the threads we slightly discussed the new “rule” about not using scripts and bots. I’ve been thinking about it and honestly, they can’t tell if you’re a bot or not unless you’re hammering the system every second - which gives you an invalid request page anyway. If you use a bot like SpotBot (run on your own server or computer, checks enrollment every 10 seconds), you’ll be fine. I’ve been using it since Winter '11 and just used it two weeks ago.
This is what is says in my admission offer from Foster:
“We will place you in the Accounting Option as requested. In order to remain in Accounting, by the end of autumn 2012, you must complete ACCTG 301 concurrently with B CMU 302.”

It just doesn’t make any sense for them to make such a condition without offering a chance to actually sign up for those classes. Or maybe it does… I don’t know. And I bet I’m not the only one with this problem.

Thanks for the SpotBot link, speedsolver.

Ah, yeah bring the offer with you and fight for a spot in that class. I’m sure you can get in - it’s not a lab class where there are only so many stations (like chem, phys). :)

Thanks. Will see what they will say.
