Registered for a late orientation date

So....I'm going to UMD for Fall of 2013 and my major is letters and sciences. I registered for the very late orientation date (the most late, I believe) of August 1-2. Just wondering how this will affect my ability to schedule for classes. Of course, I know that some classes do fill up and are probably filled up by then, but how much will this affect me entirely? Please help me out, I'm kind of panicking....

It is definitely true that most classes will be full by then. However, I still think that you will be able to get all of your classes granted you may have more 8AM classes than you would like.

I wouldn’t worry too much. Certainly don’t panic! They don’t allow classes to completely fill up, first come first served style over the summer. They reserve seats for each orientation and may open new sections as needed. The registration system is pretty sophisticated and it sounds like they do a pretty good idea of anticipating sections. I agree you might end up with classes at some undesirable times, but I think that will be the worst case.

Also, keep checking testudo to see if you can register. My orientation is the 14th, bit somehow I was able to register for classes yesterday. Considering June 12-13 is the first round of general freshmen admits (non-honors/scholars etc), I am very happy. It allowed me to get into open sections with few seats left and number 2 on a waitlist for my physics class. So hopefully it will glitch for you too!

Wow, da6onet. I suspect that this is a bug, and once they figure it out, they may make a change…usually there is a “block” on your ability to register that has to be lifted by your advisor (which would be done at orientation). I agree with all the rest. With a late date, you may not get the professor you want, and you very likely will have big gaps in your schedule (the “prime” spots will go away, as all classrooms get filled, so even if they open another section, it will probably be early or late), but it will be manageable. DO look at Testudo with a long list of classes that either are in your major or meet requirements so the process will be easier.
