Hey, does anyone know anything about college honors societies? I was just invited to delta epsilon iota and the registration fee is $68. has anyone heard of it before and is it worth it?

Don’t join it for the sake of putting it on your CV, but your local chapter might have some activities you are interested in. Why don’t you talk to a member of your local honor society?

[Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society](http://www.deltaepsiloniota.org/)

Nah you shouldn’t; listen to the music on that website, you don’t want to be affiliated with it when you apply to grad school. Grad schools tend to lean towards applicants with pre-postmodern music tastes. Thereupon, such electronica will get you rejected from even the lowest ranked grad schools.

j/k. Really, if you have nothing else to do with 68 bucks do it. If not, then ignore it.

Phi Beta Kappa, if you get invited, is worth joining. It’s nationally known and very prestigious.

Other than that, if there is an honor society for those in your major it might be worth joining depending on what the chapter does at your school. Talk to a current member first. Some offer tutoring, a collection of old exams, etc. And also the chance to get to know the better students in your major (if you’re at a larger school where classes can be large).

What are these honor societies for anyways? Do they party?

Oh yes, they definitely do party (although it depends on the organization/place in question)
