Are facilities at WPI up to snuff?

My son liked WPI a lot and has applied. But, I have this nagging little feeling about the facilities for engineering. Does anybody know, are they good? I can't be more specific than that, it just seemed like on the tour things seemed a little, well, more modest than some of the schools he's looked at. Any opinions?

Thanks~!

You got to be kidding. WPI is doing engg programs longer than most of the other schools. It does have library, labs and stuff.
Don't be deceived by what you see in bigger universities, much of the facilities is not for UG engineering. UG engg program everywhere has specific requirements and facilities prescribed by the National Board (ABET), otherwise they can't offer engineering.

^^ true that...Incase you dont know...WPI's campus is the top 25 most wired campus in the world...and most of your ivies are not on that list...
As for equipment...we have our own Nuclear Reactor...and a 2:1 computer to student ration on campus.......apart from that 5 public labs open 24 hours...and all equipment available for UG use...I know because i am a freshman here...and I can pretty much use everything that is available on campus.....

I think most opinions after the tours are largely based on the fact that the campus is really small and so it does not look flashy...

Thanks for your thoughts. I think it was just the tour.

I think my son would do really well at a school like this, and he likes it a lot. I like that the curriculum and extracurriculars seems better balanced than some of the techy schools.

We'll see. It would take some serious financial contortions to make it work.

Glad i could help....

WPI is an expensive school i wouldnt neglect that...but its worth it....and you should definitely try applying for financial aid as they usually are liberal with it....so just give it a shot and see how things turn out..
