of course I don't think so, but seeing both of my cal and physics class are mostly male, this makes me wonder if girls (especially the pretty ones) just want to take the easy way out

especially the pretty ones, seems most are taking easy majors. By easy majors I mean majors like communication or sociology.

before anyone bash me, ask yourself this, just how many of your hot female friends take majors like electrical engineering?

I am NOT trying to saying that hot girls lack intelligence, I am just stating my observation of how these ladies rarely tackle difficult classes or major- you tell me why.

So my conclusion, a pretty girl don't need to work hard to get through life, and they know it too.

P.S. - please people, don't tell me that sociology takes the same amount of work as, let say, engineering.

Females tend to be better at english and empathizing tasks (writing, clinical psych, etc), while males are better at analyzing tasks such as Engineering.

Generally people who are extraordinary at math and science are looked at like they are ridiculously smart whilst people that can write and compos a novel, song, or what have you aren't.

Yes, girls are dumber particularly because they just sit around trying to stop laughing from reading posts like this which come from someone who calls himself "driedupfish."

There are "easy" majors, but honestly your major has little to do with intelligence. Girls tend to be better at writing/reading aspects, while guys tend to be better at hands-on, technical aspects. There are a lot of hot guys in construction fields, but does that mean they are stupid? Not necessarily. Same goes for hot girls in fashion design fields (and other "soft" majors). Still, beauty and brains don't always coincide together. Not a surprise...gender roles still do matter in society. Girls are still often made out to be homemakers (and thus are better at the whole, cooking, cleaning, caretaking, teaching, nursing aspect), and guys are still often the breadmakers who are expected to take home the dough, build homes, mow the lawns, and do the grunt-work.

You really shouldn't phrase your question, "are girls really dumber than guys?" when you are really asking why many hot, pretty girls choose "easy majors."

And as a social sciences major (international relations) I feel rather insulted that you insinuate my major (and related topics) are "easier" than electrical engineering. I know several engineering majors on my floor, and I guarantee you I spend far more time working on homework than they do, merely because I have pages and pages of books of dense political theory to read each night, essays to do daily, and presentations weekly. Obviously it depends on the school as for the level of difficulty in the classes. But if they were placed in my major and classes, they would have just as difficult a time in my classes as I would have in theirs.

The hot girls are not dumber, they are smarter.
This is a sweeping generalisation (please dont attack me) but most beautiful women (in my nation at least) have no problem snagging a rich husband. Or they become models.
They have CHOSEN to take the easy way out because THEY CAN.

I remember reading somewhere that girls in general are smarter than guys, especially with reading/analyzing, however the smartest of the smart (the Einstein type engineers and physicists) and the dumbest of the dumb are usually men. This is of course, a generalization; I'm not saying it can't go both ways.

I am sorry if I insulted anyone on this matter. The title do seem inappropriate. I am not trying to reinforced the notion that pretty people lacks intelligent, I am merely stating my opinion that they generally don't need to work hard to get through life. Like someone mentioned above, pretty girls are smarter because they know they don't have to work hard as they'll marry a rich husband or become a model. I am not saying all, just most.
I know I am going to get attack for saying that, but if I am a pretty woman I would think the same thing. Why should I spend so much money in college and work so hard whereas I can just become a model or marry some rich guy. Why should I work so hard if I can just take the easy way out?

I think reading this thread made my IQ go down.

Your sweeping generalizations about the way women think are the gendered equivalent of a bunch of white guys sitting in the Capitol saying to themselves, "Why aren't there any black people here? They must be stupid."

Because some pretty girls might actually want to make a difference in the world or have a carreer that they enjoy or make their own money that they can do with however the eff they please. Being dependent on anyone else makes you powerless, and I would NEVER on someone in that way.

MANY MANY women don't rely on men- more women go to college than men. Leaving Men Behind: Women Go to College in Ever-Greater Numbers -- Education-Portal.com I have no idea where you get the idea that most pretty women just go marry. That's happening less and less and plenty of beautiful women go to my school and eat live and breathe science and math.

Yeah, this topic is screwed up.

And I wouldn't consider modeling as easy. There's more to being a good model than just being beautiful. Being under scrutiny all the time and constantly worrying about your weight and appearance is not easy. It kills some girls. And last time I checked, there are hot male models too that would have also "taken the easy way out" at least in your opinion.

Of course women are not less intelligent than men!! The fact that women are underrepresented in math/science fields has far more to do with the fact that men are directed into or at least encouraged to consider these fields from an early age, while young women who express an interest in math or science are often dismissed or outright discouraged from continuing.

Aside from the gender side of your question, the fact that you seem to think it obvious that liberal arts majors are less difficult than, say, an engineering major, is ludicrous. Does it take more intelligence to gain a technical knowledge of one specialized field (ie, electrical engineering) or to gain a well-rounded, working knowledge of several inter-connected disciplines, and the ability to clearly articulate that knowledge? Neither is superior, they are just different. This also indicates another relevant factor, which is the level of respect or prestige associated with traditionally male disciplines that is absent from disciplines (such as english) that women have historically outperformed men in.

Interestingly, if you had bothered to take one of those sociology classes you were so quick to dismiss you might have a much better view of this issue, and know better than to make assumptions based in gender stereotypes...hmmm.

Sociology would likely be the more difficult class for me when compared to engineering, haha -- my background has predisposed me to such an enormous extent to the maths and sciences that they have become incredibly easy, whereas topics further entrenched within the humanities have taken on a slightly more demanding hue. ;]

Women may very well be less "intelligent" (whatever the hell that is) than men, but, as far as I know, nobody has yet corrected for social differences currently present between the two sexes, much less provided a working definition of "intelligence," even... it would be interesting to see a study that managed to actually perform this nigh unfeasible feat, though. ;]

Haha, I find some of these responses funny. We try too hard to be politically correct.

But here are some facts:
-there are more Muslim suicide bombers than any other religion
-In the United States, more African Americans commit crimes than European Americans.
-The mean income for males is higher than the mean income for females, taking into account factors suck as education
-Engineering majors have, on average, lower GPAs then non-engineering majors.

The above statements may sound like bigotry, but they are facts. Concrete effects do not arise out of thin air, they are explained by systematic causes. For one of the examples above, there are more African American criminals due to systematic disenfranchisement, exploitation, and slavery, leading to poverty and hatred, which leads to crime.

Hot chicks tend to pick the easy way out because they know it works. Girls tend to not be engineers because of the above reason, and become they are arguably better at language skills than concrete mathematics and spatial reasoning. Other sociological factors are also partly responsible for this divide. This is not a sexist claim, it is a hypothesis that cannot be rejected because the prevailing data conforms to the model. Give me a better model, and I'll believe it.

Math and science are both based on the discoveries of europeans and arabs. Asians just have a better work ethic and a different mindset nowadays.

Personally I do think that men are better at certain things and women are better at others. One gender probably is a bit smarter than the other; not sure which, nor by how much. The difference probably isn't significant.

Pretty girls generally do have it easier in life. That's...um, obvious?

Regarding their intelligence, it's very general and stereotypical, though... I do agree that statistically, at least from my experience, there are more smart girls that aren't hot than are, but statistics is...only statistics.

Lol at this.

I know this is very un-PC to say, and feel free to commence ridiculing me for my stereotypical views, BUT I have never met a smart asian person. Lol. LIke.. really.

There are more young women attending college than young men, so if you wanted to argue for the "smarter" sex...

Anyway, doing so is really ignorant. There are fewer girls in math and the sciences because they're discouraged from being interested in it. Young girls constantly hear comments about how boys are better at math, and all their math teachers are male so there are no good role models... it's a cycle. Girls who are talented in what are seen as masculine subjects aren't (traditionally) supported in their endeavors. I think it's getting much better now and we'll see the numbers balance out in the future. Remember, the 70s weren't THAT long ago.

INVENIAMVIAM... it's not "un-politically correct", it's simply not correct. But if you want to invite ridicule onto yourself for your ignorance, none of us are going to stop you from making a fool of yourself.
