Okay so here's my situation. I'm a Business Econ Major hoping to get into UCLA. Is the honors program really helpful? What I'm saying is at the time of application I will have a 3.80 GPA with a 4.0 in 3 major prep classes (Writing 2, Micro and Macro econ, BTW these are NOT honors classes)). Now this upcomming Fall semester I have to decide weather to sign the TAP agreement and complete honors. So far I have 42 units completed with 13 units that I have to take NON honors (Bio, Calc 1, Calc 2 because my CCC does not offer them honors). So as of now I only have 1.5 units of honors completed (I took a college planning class).

Basically if I decide to do honors, I'll have to take 4 extra honors classes that I basically do not need in order to fulfill 15 units of honors classes. Right now for this fall and spring semesters, I only need to take those 13 units that have to be NON honors (Calc 1 5 units, Calc 2 5 units, Bio 3 units). So I'll have 55 units compleated. Is it really worth it to do those extra 4 honors classes? My counselor who is head of the honors program and TAP for UCLA transfers says that a 3.4-3.5 honors will have no problem getting into UCLA Business Econ.

I think it will be extremely beneficial if your CC has an agreement with UCLA's College of Letters and Science, which I assume it does. However, if you take those 4 honors classes, you might get overloaded with work. I would suggest that you just apply w/o being a certified honors student.

Honestly with your gpa it is not going to help much. The UCLA counselor told me TAP only helps those with lower gpa's. Normally they would not be considered but with TAP they are. I was in your same situation and she told me it would not help me at all since I already have a high gpa. Call the school and ask yourself TAP does not help as much as people think it does.

3.4 with tap is kinda low for bus econ, but I know plenty of people with TAP who got into that major with 3.6s (which is considered pretty low).

A 3.8 for bus econ is pretty good, but I've seen people get rejected with more. I just think it's best to take as many precautionary measures as possible, and TAP is really the best one available.
