Diocletian, send them a picture of your marble bust and I'm sure you'll get in.

Haha! That made my day. We Romans have to stick together, you know.

"We live in an unfair world."

Um, isn't it unfair that intelligence--which is largely determined before birth--and work ethic--which is largely determined by the environment in which you were raised--are such large factors in college admissions? Why should looks be given non-special treatment? Good-looking people are more likely to be happy, confident and successful: exactly the type of people colleges are looking for.

mikemac: weird! I just read that book, which is what started to make me think about this! It changed my life, lol. You should read Influence by Robert Cialdini- same type of stuff, but a little less mainstream

Dude...do you think you are applying for a job at Abercrombie and Fitch or something?

Just wait until applications packets include coupons for ProActive Solution and Crest WhiteStrips.

I also heard someone say that sometimes it is useful in determining a student's ethnic/racial background if they choose not to answer it.

I know a couple of Asians with non-Asian last names. I don't mean names like Lee or Park, I mean names like McGill and Butcher (and these people aren't adopted or half-Asian). I think some colleges have caught on to the fact that some Asians change their last names, so they want a photo.

"Just wait until applications packets include coupons for ProActive Solution and Crest WhiteStrips."

LOL I would request an app every month if they did that....

apparently looks dont play a role a MIT...have you seen there info brochure...i scoured it for a good looking person...but not a single one lol

That makes since since MIT is tech based

science professions= based entirely on skill/merit

business, medical, law= work with people, have to inspire loyalty or trust by projecting an image

"Dude...do you think you are applying for a job at Abercrombie and Fitch or something?"

LOL. (girls there are attractive, hehe)

"apparently looks dont play a role a MIT...have you seen there info brochure...i scoured it for a good looking person...but not a single one lol"
only hellas ugly people apply to mit anyway, admissions at mit doesn't have much of a choice

man, these asians sound so slick you might as well admit them anyway (but uh, "butcher"? kind of a poor choice there)

haha yea i believe it....i was just in shock tho....like its a big brouchure! does any one else know the one I'm talking about? Honestly....if i was MIT i would high tail it to the nearest abercrombie and take pics of non-students for my brouchure...Theirs is flat out embarassing lol

Who cares if they are ugly or not, chances are those ugly MIT kids will prolly make more money that some good-looking kid going to another school that's not as prestigious once they graduate.

the MIT thing-- harsh!

Yeah, but I doubt MIT cares much. They're out for brains, not looks. And they've got more than enough applicants meeting that criteria.
