Are lower-than-average SAT scores looked down upon?

When admissions sees lower than average SAT scores, does the application get a read anyway? Or do they automatically stop? I know someone who scored below 2000 on the SAT and still goes to Columbia, but I'm not sure how strict Columbia admissions officers are in general?

I'm retaking the SAT in Nov, so I don't know if my application will be read before they receive my new scores.

bump

All prestigious colleges conduct a holistic review, to my knowledge - at least what they purport to do. Having said that, I know some friends of mine who got rejected at a 1900 SAT and another who got in at 2300+. There is no stone cold lead pipe cuts, but obviously a higher score will significantly help you attain admissions.

According to their Class of 2018 profile, the middle 50% (25%-75%) had between 2160-2330 SAT (Refer to http://undergrad.admissions.columbia.edu/sites/default/files/2018profile.pdf</a>).

I know people here with low SAT scores. Definitely not unheard of, but not the norm.
