<p>I really want to go to Yale but I have no idea what my chances are...</p>
<p>My grades are good but not great. A's and B's. Almost all honors, but only one AP (taking it this coming year)
My SAT scores are pretty low 1700.
My class rank is 30/252 (top 12%)
I am president of two clubs, member of National Honors Society, and many other ECs.</p>
<p>I was born in Argentina, lived there until I was 6, knew not a word of English but learned in two years and can now speak fluently, read, and write in both languages. I take French in school and can hold a conversation in that language too. I've also attended four elementary schools in my life and did not settle down until around fourth grade. My dad/ other close family still lives in Argentina so I go there to visit every few years.</p>
<p>Does this stuff even matter? Will it help me get in? If you're going to say something mean, please don't lol I just...don't know...</p>
<p>“As and Bs” — mostly As and few Bs? or a good number As and a big handful of Bs? To even be viable, you need to be among the handful of top students at your school. It doesn’t appear to be the case with you.</p>
<p>Plus your SAT makes you a virtual impossibility given the extremely competitive Yale international pool. Sorry but every year you have multitudes of 2200+ scoring kids getting rejected.</p>
<p>Best advice for you is to look at less than the tippy top schools. HYP etc, are impossible reaches for you. I’m sorry. Good luck to you.</p>
<p>There are many immigrant kids with much better academics that will be rejected by Yale next season. That’s just the reality of a place like Yale.</p>
<p>Study A LOT for the SAT and retake it. Study A LOT for the ACT and try to take it. Study A LOT for SAT Subject Tests and take those in subjects you are most confident in. </p>
<p>Right now your class schedule/grades are less than perfect. If you’ve only taken 1 AP, but if your school offers many more, you’re in an incredibly difficult situation. In terms of standardized testing results, admission to Yale, or any school of similar caliber, is almost certainly out of the question. Your international status seals your fate, however. Competition is at a much, much higher level than the already high level faced by US applicants. Unless you can seriously improve your application in the next few months, your chances are basically zero. It’s just reality.</p>
<p>The good news however, is if you’re really set on getting an education in the US, there are many good schools you have a shot at, especially if you can raise your standardized test scores by a bit.</p>
<p>Some statistics: 75% of Yale students score 1400 or above on CR+M SAT. I don’t know your breakdown, but it looks as if it’s somewhere in the 1150-1200 range (assuming your scores are relatively even). The difference between 1200 and 1400 is approximately 1 standard deviation per sectin, which is huge. 96% of Yale’s students are in the top 10% of their class.</p>
<p>Yale, and most other top schools view applicants holistically – meaning that the entire application,not just grades and scores are important. With a ‘chance me’ thread, we’re limited to a few statistics – which means our responses are practically meaningless. Nonetheless, your statistics are significantly below what Yale usually accepts, so it would appear that your chances are slim.</p>
<p>Your life experiences are important, and might be helpful, but in this case, the grades/score combination probably won’t be overcome.</p>
<p>Whether for Yale or any other top tier school, you should bring try to bring your SATs up significantly – on the three part test – shoot for 2000 or 2100.</p>

There are many immigrants here in the US. Even you insert this topic into your essay, you will have to compete against them.</p>
