Are my chances for the Honors College at the University of Mississippi good?

When I will apply I will have a minimum of a 32 on the ACT, a 3.6 unweighted GPA, a lot of hours of community service (above 100 hours), 4 years of participation in the choir, 2 years of participation in Theater (complimented with induction into the International Thespian Society and one year serving as Secretary for our chapter), and a few letters of recommendation. I’m concerned that my GPA may be low (given that the average GPA for the honors college is above 3.9). I did take a fair few AP classes though (will be 8 upon graduation).

@PFAnimals Based on your post, you sound like a solid candidate. I’ve advised others who question their chances of honors admission to ensure that they have a strong resume, solid letters of recommendation and a well-written essay that speaks to the topic given. Your test score, which there’s always options of increasing, sets you on a competitive path already. If you have AP classes, then they will look at that in terms of your GPA. Visit the Honors College and meet the staff before you apply.

Thank you! I hope to join the Ole Miss family so to speak!

You sound like a competitive applicant; don’t underestimate the importance of your essays and letters of recommendation. University of Mississippi’s Honors College is looking to build a class, so your intended major matters when applying. This is not to discourage you from declaring a major in a field you’d love to work in, but it is worth noting that Honors College is more competitive for business majors because a larger number of them apply. In addition, if you are applying for Croft and are accepted, you will almost certainly gain admittance to the Honors College. Hope this helps! Best of luck! And if you’re not accepted, look into Honors College junior entry.

Does anyone know if the 3.9 is weighted or unweighted?
