Okay, so it's the end of my second semester of junior year. This is what my grades are going to look like:
B in AP US History (counts as an A)
A in Physics
A in AP Literature
A in Creative Writing (elective)
A in Orchestra
and... a D in PreCalculus

I've already made my language requirement, since I took Spanish 3 last year.
Sophomore year, I got mostly A's and a couple B's
Last semester, I got all A's and two B's

Will that D in PreCalculus ruin everything? What I mean by that is, I know it will probably inhibit me from entering a UC school, but what about a csu school?
I'm not sure I can retake the semester, but If I could, would that make any difference, since I have to apply to colleges this fall? I'm really scared because none of my parents have gone to a university, and I'm the oldest child so I'm sort of on my own right know and I don't know what to do.

Please share your experiences and advice. I'm really confused. I can't go to my counselors right now because it's already too far into the year. I just need to know if I still have a chance, or if I've ruined everything with that D.
thanks

It depends. What school do you want to go to and what is your overall GPA?

my gpa is a 3.67. The colleges that interest me right now are:
UC Riverside
UC Santa Cruz
CSU Long Beach
CSU Monterey Bay
CSU Los Angeles
San Diego State University
San Francisco State University
University of San Francisco
University of San Diego

You need to have a C or better in all a-g required classes. That being said, I would see if you could retake the class during the summer or sign up for the class at your local community college. You will have the new grade prior to starting your applications. I would contact your Counselor about any other suggestions.

Please talk to your counselor right away. It doesn’t make any sense not to discuss the ramifications and how bet to mitigate the situation. What a shame.

Not ruined.
However, the lower your overall GPA or lower your AP grades etc… the lesser it contributes to your chances at Competitive schools with majority of almost “perfect” applicants.

She has already listed her schools. UCs don’t like Ds, that option may be out. It will be a disadvantage at CSU. And there is this CSU requirement problem.

Math (4 years recommended) including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, or higher mathematics (take one each year)

OP, you need to make this class up over summer.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I was NOT going to let myself get a d so I studied a lot for the final. I ended up with a solid c, which is not great, but hey, loads better than what it nearly was.
