Hello,
I’m a sophomore at a Canadian private high school, and I’m thinking about applying to SNU for university. Does SNU care a lot about Grade 9 and 10 marks? In Grade 9, my average was 91, and in Grade 10, it’s 93.
What kind of grades should I be getting? As in, what average should I aim for?
Do you think this is good enough for SNU? I heard that they care about grades that grow in an upward trend, but I’m not sure.

I have a hard time understanding why someone who’s used to the participatory learning dynamics in a western classroom would want to go to a school where the learning dynamics tend towards rote memorization.
As a person living in Korea, I do know that SKY universities put a lot of emphasis on grades and SAT more than EC’s. You should be almost top in your class and getting the highest marks possible. If you’re applying from abroad, you have at least a little higher chance to get in than applicants who are applying locally & ethnically Korean. Upward trend is always good, but make sure you’re top on your stuff!
@ superhay Thanks for all the helpful responses! Do you know what grades they value the most? As in, grade 9, 10, 11, or 12 grades? Also, do they care about the elective courses a lot, because those are the marks dragging me down (Art, Tech etc.)

But back to the topic, from what I know, there isn’t one grade you shouldn’t prioritize, so always try your best in all. Freshmen year (9th) can sometimes be seen as a “trial” year, getting used to everything so it’s less prioritized but all in all, they still look at it. Elective classes aren’t looked at as much or given lots of importance. I would just try harder in that class and it shouldn’t be problem.

Glad you know now and actually my bias is D.O too but honestly I love them all, Chen’s a close second, and Chanyeol/Kai/Sehun/Lay right after. Wait, what? LOL @exokyungsoo I like to mix it up with the characters as my avatar that’s why I have Chan as my ava.
But all in all D.O is just my amazing bias.
Does anyone happen to know how important the essays are for the SKY universities? Because so far in my research the essay seems like a necessary however unimportant aspect of the application …
