Are my kinda-weak scores going to hurt me?

I’m a senior, in the midst of applying to colleges. This year, I’m taking a university course and I’m going to end up with a B (there’s no way to salvage my grade).

That class is going to break my 4.0… my GPA is going to be a 3.98 after it.

Is it a big deal to have a 4.0? Is it going to hurt me that I don’t have a 4 anymore? I’m just freaking out a little because it’s a college course and I don’t know if colleges are going to think I’m not capable of university classes if my only B is in a university class.

I have an 800 in Math 2 but a 770 in Chem… and 11 total AP scores as of now (16 by the end of senior year) and among the scores are two 3’s.

And also a 1570 SAT… I’m most worried about my university class breaking my GPA though.

Are my statistics a bit weak if I’m aiming for Ivy Leagues? Any comments? Lots of love~

Thank you!

No. It’s disingenuous to call those scores weak.

If you get rejected, it will not be because of one B

You have an excellent GPA and test scores. One “B” will not be the reason you are not accepted to an ivy league college. You are going to have a lot of great college choices…report back to us when you make your decision in the spring…good luck!

Agree with the above – it is disingenuous to call your test scores “kinda-decent”. And your GPA is just fine even with the B. Your academics will get you through the first threshold. After that ,things we can’t see like your essay, LORs, depth of EC involvement as well as other intangibles will come into play.

You got an 800 in Math II and a 1570 SAT score, and a stellar GPA taking a heckuva challenging schedule You are clearly smart enough to realize that admissions to the Ivy level school are so competitive, where 19 out of 20 kids get rejected. These schools tell us that they could all fill their classes several times over from the pool of rejected applicants.

You’re qualified enough. The ivy schools don’t spend the time looking at the few AP tests where you only got a “3” when you clearly have the academic chops to handle it there. They instead will be trying to figure out if you fill any of their other needs (based on your ECs, geography, ethnicity, etc.)

Of course, they’ll see any 3 scores you report. And 4s. Of course, they’ll see the B.

It can be a mistake to just focus on your stats as what matters. Or feign disappointment in a 770. Or think the count of AP is magical, without noting the rigor and relevance. If those 3s and the college course relate to your hoped -for major, it can be an oops.

But you know what else matters, right? How to shine in the app and supps? That’s not just titles or curing cancer. Nor your professional goals.

You’re humble-bragging…

I disagree, I don’t think it is humble-bragging, I think it is a sincere case of nerves, realistically knowing even had all of the grades been A+, sometimes even that isn’t enough.

OP, can you tell us your class rank? It must be pretty high, but there are several schools where these grades/scores might barely crack the top ten percent, and others where you’re far and away the #1. What does your GC suggest?
