Hi, I'm a rising high school senior, and I just got back my scores yesterday: 700 lit, 700 chemistry, and 770 U.S. history. I was hoping to get into a biochemistry program at a top college (possibly ivy league), and now I'm worried that these scores will ruin my chances. I'm extremely disappointed in my chem score; I thought I would do better. I won't have time to retake the SAT II's if I want to retake the regular SATs. I know a lot of schools will either take the SAT and two subject tests or just the ACT. Would it be smarter for me to just take the ACTs in the fall instead of the SATs? (That way, only my ACT would be considered for some schools instead of both my SATs and low SAT subject scores). Adittionally, I'm not sure if I want to retake them because the school I'm aiming for requires ALL of your scores, and I think they might look down on taking the SAT II's more than once.

Any advice is welcome! I have no idea what I should do....

That’s a tough one, as you don’t have time to re-take both the SAT I and subject tests. I would advise against taking the ACT if you already have a pretty good feel for the SAT. Switching tests this late could be dangerous if you’ve never taken the ACT. In addition, some Ivies require you to take subject tests even if you’re submitting an ACT score (Princeton, Cornell, etc.). That being said, if you are really not satisfied with your SAT I score, you could try taking the ACT in September, try to figure out how you feel about it, and then decide whether or not you’d like to take the SAT I/subject tests again. If you took both Chem and Bio again, I don’t think it would be a big deal. Hope that was helpful, and good luck!

P.S. Nice U.S. History score! :)

My daughter is taking the regular SAT in October and then 2 subject tests in November. I’ve looked around and this seems fine for regular decision schools…

Thanks so much for the advice! I think I’m going to take a few ACT practice tests and if my results are good, I might take a chance and take the ACT. I might apply early decision to my top school, so taking another SAT in November isn’t an option for me.

yes it’s fine. I only had a 730 USH I envy you.
