Are my sophomore year grades ruining my chances?

Hey guys, im new to college discussion and i was wondering…i really like UCD i live nearby and think it would be a good fit for me but im really worried about my sophomore year grades :/

Sophomore year i had a 3.1 average UC GPA
Junior year i had a 3.6 for the first semester and last quarter i had a 3.8
(these are all UC calculated GPA’s)

i know my junior year grades are good enough to get me into a decent school but what about when my grades from sophomore year are taken into account?

Also i am an athlete: 2 years jv football, 1 year varsity football, 2 years varsity track and 5 years of basketball for my local league.

Hooks: first gen college student coming from a lower middle class single parent home

any advice would be appreciated

UC’s focus on sophomore and junior year grades…while my junior year grades were fine (As, A-'s, and a couple B+'s) my soph year grades sucked (All B+'s) in regards to the top universities.

try and do well on your SATs to compensate for your alright/average soph year grades

alright, thanks

my GPA was similar to yours and I got in and I am a current freshman at UCD. GOt a 3.0 GPA in sophomore year and 3.7 junior year. Need lot of ECs and good essays. I also had around a 1860 SAT so that would help

thanks to all who respond :]

Well the upward trend is definitely good. Since you can’t really do much about changing the grades you already received, try and boost other areas of your application and when it comes to the personal statement, make it good. Otherwise, you should be fine =)

I don’t think the quality of your essays matter, in regards to writing style.

Davis is point system.
Make sure you can hit as many of these points as possible.

Honestly, next year, I’d sign up for a lot of nonweighted A-G classes, so that you can get as many points from “Classes beyond minimum requirements” as possible.

Leadership shouldn’t be too hard; just found two real basic clubs (kids at my school have made clubs like ‘Beard Appreciation Club’). Any club will count. Just do something.

You should get the grade improvement points…just try to boost everything as much as you can. If you know about the spreadsheet, it’s fairly easy to gear things towards it.
Good luck!

thank you all so much you have really helped ease my mind haha
