I haven't taken the SAT for real, but my PSAT/practice test best composite score is 730/590/750 (2070). I am working on improving my score with books and prep! I know it needs to be higher! I hope to raise it to 2200 or higher to get National Merit status.

*I am president/team captain of the debate team for 10th and 11th. I have gotten many local-level awards, have qualified for state and national competitions, and have gotten awards at the state and national level. For anyone familiar with debate, I am going to attend Crestian, Blue Key, and Wake Forest next year, and I have a degree of special distinction as of now (about 650 points).

I am extremely interested in Wake Forest, especially because of the debate program. I am seeking to be recruited for Wake's team. It sounds like a great university and a perfect fit (small, private, liberal-arts, debate program). I would be very interested to know how I can improve my chances of getting in, and also some information about their merit scholarship programs.

Thanks for all your help!

You sound like a good candidate for Wake. Be sure to apply for the Presidential Scholarship, which awards merit scholarships to applicants with special distinctions in areas such as debate, theatre, dance, writing, etc. There are lots of other merit scholarships also, and it appears from the web site that the process for these has changed; all applicants to Wake are now considered - no separate application for merit scholarships is required, as it has been in the past. But there is still a spearate application process for the Presidential Scholarships (the talent-based ones).

Yeah I think you look like an excellent candidate for Wake Forest. To be honest, if you are not unique in something, Merit Scholarships are really really hard to come by because you need insane academics. Generally they give scholarships to minorities and internationals. I would say that not including need-based aid your best shot would be the Presidential scholarship that Onedown mentioned.
