depends on the selectivity of the college. For a competitive liberal arts school, and ivy, the sat IIs are very important. They play a crucial rule in determining whether your school has grade inflation or deflation based on your scores.

what about ap's? I don't have stellar Sat IIs but all fives on my ap's. Are sat II's more important than ap's for high ranking schools?

Yeah, just to extrapolate on harajuku's point; I scored a 730 and 700 on my US History and Biology SAT II's, but I scored fives on both of them. How would those scores be looked at?

SAT II's are way more important, because it allows college to check for grade inflation, and compare you nationwide. Plus, it has a more precise score range. For example, I heard a 5 on an AP exam is like a 730-800, which is a very broad range.

for admissions, I've been reading that SAT 2's are definitely more important. For instance at the Ivies, the "AI" used for academically classifying recruited athletes is calculated using SAT 1's, SAT 2's, and class rank NOT AP's.

also, & this important.....even though all SAT 2's get reported, only the top 2 or 3 are considered in the admissions process. Meaning, you can have a stinker in there, but as long as you have the selective college's requisite # of good SAT 2 scores, you're OK.

AP's really help because it has a free response section graded by college professors, which looks good to colleges.

ap's dont mean crap.. If you get all 5's on like 6 tests then colleges will think you are a very good test taker, and it will look dandy, but the sat 2's and sat's are wayyyyyyyyy more important. honestly i talked to my counselor (and she is a very good one at that, or so the general consensus would say).

Anyhoo, several of the college admissions book, like those written by the admissions deans of Stanford and Duke, mention that the SAT2's, for engineers especially, are even more important than the SAT1. If you apply for creative literature or something than i'd say sat1 may be more important but yea sat2 makes a big difference
