Are schools more interested in the common app essay or the supplement essay

My problem with the common app essay is it lends itself to cliche answers. I wrote mine about volunteering and I think it is unique, but my supplements are much better. What do you think?

Well, they are obviously interested in both, but the supplemental questions are, presumably, more school specific. Certainly, if the supplemental question is “Why X,” be very specific as to why X is the right place for you.

If your common app essay is full of cliches, I’d suggest revising it until it is not full of cliches.
