Are Subject Tests Required for UCLA?

Hi! Are subject tests required/recommended for UCLA? I really don’t want to take more tests than I have to. Did anyone get in without taking any subject tests? Thanks!

What does the UCLA website say about SAT II as an admission requirement?

None of the UC’s require SAT subject tests, but many majors have recommendations. Since UCLA is a very competitive school, it is to your benefit to take the SAT subject tests recommended to be a more competitive applicant.

Applicants to the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science also are strongly encouraged to take the following SAT Subject Tests: Math Level 2 and a science test (Biology E/M, Chemistry, or Physics) that is closely related to the applicant’s intended major.
Take these tests as early as possible, and have your test scores sent directly to UCLA. December of the year prior to the fall you intend to enter UCLA is the latest you can take any test in time for scores to be used for our selection process.

I learn that many students score close to full mark of 800 in Math 2 or Chem for example. If my son’s score is just 680, is it better not to send? What is your opinion pls?

Since the SAT subject tests are recommended, many UC campuses (not sure about UCLA) actually state that these tests can only help not hurt your chances, however; it is your choice. If the rest of the application is competitive, one lowish score should not make a huge impact.

@tintinhope Hi.I’m a geophysics major and I’m in ucla class of 2020. back during the whole application process, I sent in my 680 Math 2 along with my 750 Physics score. My sat score was 2100 and I got in just fine so I honestly think it’s better if you send it.

@crazytsundere Do you mind looking at my last thread “Chances of Getting into USC,” and telling me if that looks good for UCLA? Thanks!
