Are test scores really a big deal?

Now that USC decisions are around the corner, I'm getting very nervous and worrisome. Despite having a a very good GPA, good EC's, decent essays, and being a Questbridge finalist, can my 1590 SAT and 24 ACT really make me look bad? I know they approach applicants holistically but can my test scores negatively affect my application? I've been all over CC and even when students have a 1800+, people think it's low. That makes me feel like I don't have a chance at USC. :(

Hope for the best. It’s all you can do.

Quite simply, yes. But the rest of your application might be cool enough.

Seems very low for USC, even somewhat low for questbridge.

I read a post from last years decision thread and there was a student who was accepted with a 1500 SAT. What can I say…everybody have different circumstances and outcomes. :)

Please don’t be discouraged. Honestly, a lot of the stuff said on CC about test scores and percentiles is a load of bull. If it’s any concelation,I have a friend who was a questbridge finalist with a 23ACT and a 3.9 GPA get accepted OOS and RD.

“If it’s any concelation,I have a friend who was a questbridge finalist with a 23ACT and a 3.9 GPA get accepted OOS and RD.”

^^ USC doesn’t have any decision plan other than regular decision, and it’s a private school so OOS is irrelevant.

Sorry for the errors?

Questbridge finalists are different. They get accepted early. Earlier than the scholarship consideration people. So they are waaaaaaaaaaayy before. If they don’t get matched they are considered for RD.

I think that is what the Poster meant to say?

Note to self: be clearer with posts…

Sorry for the confusion. I personally don’t know much about Questbridge but she was a Finalist that did not rank/match colleges. So I assume she forwarded the app to USC, and eventually was accepted.

Thanks @raldan! I’m looking forward to USC decision day now! My hopes are back up! :smiley:
It’s nice to know I have other good options just in case this doesn’t work out. :)

No problem! I’m also in a similar situation: 26 ACT, applying to USC. Good luck to the both of us!

1840 SAT LOW as hell SAT 2s.

My GPA is a 88…I’m not sure how that calculates over?

Anyway, I’m hoping for the best. Actually I’m praying for the best. I want to prove my doubters wrong and elevate myself up.

So many haters cause they didn’t get in…Not my fault homie.lol

My guess is that scores count quite a bit… during the explore USC session for Trustees the dean explicitly stated that the average SAT was 2320 in that group.

@ilovemyego23
I know right? lol

Good luck to all of us and I hope we’re Trojans by the end of this month! :D

I have high hopes for all of us!

^ Me too! :D

my CR and W scores are relatively weak for USC and my math is the only decent one. DW youre not alone :stuck_out_tongue: USC is my top choice school. I applied to other ivies but this one’s the one I really want to go to. like REALLY want to go to. Lets just hope for the best! :)

Skater girl;
That’s funny because my reading and writing fell into the average for USC but my math was way below average. Luckily I didn’t apply to a math based major so I hope they take that into consideration. I’m so nervous!

The letters are sent out in 9 more days.

Don’t remind me. lol Jk! :p
