Hey everyone! I’m a USC applicant with 26 act too. Good luck to everyone!

I scored an 1880 on the SAT, with a 690 on CR, a 600 in Math and a 590 in writing. My ACT score was a 28. I am applying to the Viterbi School of Engineering, are my scores going to place my application at least in the realm of possibility?

Id say that being a questbridge finalist is definitely a plus, but your SAT score does seem pretty low.

I got into UCLA with those scores, but I’m still nervous for USC! lol Good luck if you’re a fellow USC applicant! :)

@curious : this year UCLA took a lot of out of state and URM with low test score to off set last few yrs. A lot of high stats Asian took a hit this yr , specially who intended major in Science and Engineering. whoever intended major in humanities and social sciences had better chance. I dont know about USC this cycle…Maybe they do that too so you still have hope with low SAT scores curious.

^ Thanks! :)

SocalGirl is right. Many of my asian classmates are heartbroken. I am attendinf a public school in northern cal. I got in. Waiting for Berkeley.

For one,

No that is not the reason why Curious got in.

California public schools are banned by law to affirmative action.(Prop 209 was passed after a law suit from a potential law student) So, to say that she got in just because she was a URM and had lower test scores is incorrect. If this were to be true, then UCalifornia would be hit with a huge fine, which no one can afford(rising tuition and other costs)

Two,
I’m pretty sure that even though her scores are low, something was spoken through her essays and other portions of her applications.

Three,
UCalifornia is largely composed of Asian students, and the majority of its applicants are Asian. Just because a few asians with high test scores and GPAs didn’t get in does not mean some one is lower. They just did not get in.Move on, life moves on, they probably got into a better school anyway.

With that said, i suggest that most of you, from now on, think more about the value of a Saturday morning test and a 4 year high school career number. Numbers are factors but they are not essential.

Ego couldn’t have said it any better!

^ I know right? :)

Now that I think about it, it kind of hurts when people say that the only reason why I got into such a elite school is because of my URM status. I’m a very smart and passionate person and I tried my best to show that through my essays. I am also in the top 5% of my class and I worked very hard to get and stay there. I hope USC see that as well in my Questbridge application. :)

Honestly I think test scores are dehumanizing. There are so many factors in standardized tests that do not honestly represent a student. That is why I like USC’s holistic approach because it gives those who don’t test well, but those who are still educated, have an opportunity to attend such a prestigious institution.

Seabasstian

I agree with you 100%. :)

U shouldn’t feel that way . YRM deserves it. You should feel proud of it. URM has to overcome lot of difficulties in life and stereotype to achieve what you have today. A lot of rich kids have every opportunity provide to them and took things for granted . You should be proud of it curious.

^ Thank you for the kind and encouraging words! :)
