I'm just asking for an opinion from the community here on college confidential on my chances of getting into University of Chicago or UPenn(Wharton). I am currently a junior in high school (first semester), enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program at the school i'm attending. I currently have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and about a 4.5-4.6 weighted GPA (hopefully not going down). I've taken a few practice SAT's and have gotten in about the 2000's range(I'm not that great at multiple-choice test-taking), but I haven't taken the full-fledged SAT yet, so i'm still preparing. Through more practice tests, I've gotten around the 750's on both the Chemistry Subject test and the U.S. History Subject test, but again, I still haven't taken the full-fledged test, yet.

University of Chicago: Is there any chance of me getting in? I'm a bit scared i'll get a B in AP Calc this semester (it's killing me), but hopefully, if I get a 5 on the AP test, that'll change my grade back to an A (but that's not something to rely upon). If, perhaps, I do get a B in AP Calc, how much will that bring down my unweighted GPA and will it lower my chances of getting into University of Chicago?

UPenn (Wharton): Honestly, I have no interest in the business sector, but my brother goes to Wharton and is graduating this year, so i'm going to apply for the heck of it. Would I be considered legacy, even if i'm just his sister? Is there any chance of me getting in?

Don’t apply to a school if you don’t want to go there. One B won’t kill you or UChicago, but do bring your test scores up. What are your ECs/leadership roles?

I’ve played piano for seven years, danced for eight, played soccer for about six. I’m currently the leader of a winning 5th at states (first time) National History Day team and is currently looking towards(well trying to) become the president of our National Moot Court team/club, ranked overall #2 high school at the “We The Students” National High School Moot Court Competition located in Washington, D.C… That’s about it for now.

With witty, unique essays, UChicago is within reach for most applicants who have good enough academic stats. I would work on getting your SAT 1 up for Wharton, and it wouldn’t hurt for UChicago. Wharton seems like a reach, and UChicago is more like a low reach. Good luck :)
