I am planning on taking AP US History and AP Psycology for my upcoming Junior year. I have heard US History is one of the hearder APs and Psycology is one of the easier APs. I am taking nearly all honors classes, and am willing to work hard. But, Im just wondering, how hard/easy are these classes? How is the workload? Based off your experience, would you reccomend other AP classes?

In every school, the classes are taught somewhat different.
In my opinion, I would say they are fairly difficult classes…but you are better off asking someone in your school who has already taken them.
At my school, AP US History is one of the hardest classes you could take your junior year simply because of the sheer workload, and because we have an extremely passionate teacher. However, just at the high school next to us, it’s practically a joke of a class.
We don’t have AP Psychology, however.

That should be fine. APUSH workload varies with school and teacher. I had about one to two outlines a week, until our teacher made outlines optional at the beginning of the second semester, so it wasn’t insane.

Might want to add an AP science of some sort, just to even things out.

Yeah that’s not bad at all. Psych is like an honors class, USH is like 1.5x a science AP. (for me anyways)

I second that that APUSH=1.5x a science AP. (In reality, I’d call it equal to .8x AP Chem but 2xAP Bio and 1.5x AP Physics C, but that’s entirely because of my schools crazy homework/lab load for chem and me not studying for anything ever.)

If you think you can manage your time, that looks fine. It all depends on your school and your teachers. At my school, APUSH is tons of work and the tests/quizzes are pretty challenging compared to other AP classes. AP Psych is pretty interesting, but easy.

You’re fine.

At my school APUSH is a LOT of work but an interesting subject. I put in so much time for that class and studying was awful.

AP psych on the other hand is ridiculously easy. Everything is basically self explanatory, I’ve never studied on a test and I always get at least an 88%.

You’ll be okay! I took APUSH, AP Calc, and AP physics last year. I survived! This year I even have 5 APs (psych, econ, stats, bio, Spanish) and I’m managing to get through it.

It won’t be bad as long as you’re willing to put in a little effort :)

Thats what I was thinking- to add a science. I was thinking Biology because the teacher is exceptional while the teachers for Physics and Chemistry are not, but I really struggled through Honors Bio. my freshman year. In APUSH, what review book did you use to study for the test?

I think mine was by AMSCO. Awesome book, even my teacher approved of my selection. Definitely worth the money I had to spend to get it.

At my school both classes are extremely work-intensive, so I definately will have to manage my time effectively. I’ll also be taking Honors Physics, Accelerated Trigonometry, and Honors English

Thats one of the few I was looking at. I also heard that Direct Hit and The Essential Content are great as well. I was thinking of getting them w/ AMSCO.

It’s ok, if I can get through 5 I’m sure you can manage It might be tough in the beginning but once you figure out how to use your time, you shouldn’t have problems.

I’m at an extremely competitive and pretty widely recognized high school (in this state, anyway and some nearby states) and the work is not easy… It’s all about allocating your time resources, really

What do you think of AP Stats? What do you do in it? Thats a class I’m definately looking into for my senior year.

Thanks a lot for the help! I was also wondering, how long did you study for the APUSH test? Did you study throughout the year? I am hoping to get a 5 too, so whatever help or criticisim I can get would be great

Nope, not throughout the year, just for the last month or so before the exam.
Although looking back, it seems like a good idea to review once during winter break too just to refresh your memory a little bit. It helps especially if you plan on taking the US History SAT subject test.

Alright, thanks. Are there any other AP classes you reccomend taking?

AP statistics! It’s pretty easy most of the time, and actually applicable to the real world. AP econ isn’t bad either. I think it all depends on what you’re strengths are

2 AP’s in junior year isn’t a terribly extensive amount, and is definitely not “too much.” I’d try taking more if you can fit it in your schedule, take AP classes that you find interesting or in subjects you are good at.
Colleges really want to see that you are challenging yourself, so really just take as many AP classes as you think you can manage!

Good luck! (:

AP Psychology and AP US History are definitely doable within the same year. I took the APUSH class as a junior with three other AP courses and self-studied for AP Psychology and didn’t find the workload overwhelming at all. Are you thinking of taking any math AP courses? Calculus seems like a good addition to balance your schedule.

ap statistics is good. Ap calc AB is good also since you will most likely be taking pre-calc or calc anyway
