I am senior right now and I am just curious. I am interested in majoring in Biochem B.S and minoring in psych. I am very interested in UCR’s school of med but also aspire to become a vet. I am in-state and live in riverside county, in which I am not far from the school. My location may provide an advantage for me getting into their med school as they want more physicians in our county, where they are desperate enough that they will pay off 4 yrs of med school for those who stay in the county (in which I will). I am currently doing my internship at my local hospital (which has a great connection to UCR). I volunteer at my local animal shelter to assist me in my path to vet school. I am part of a distinguished health academy where we serve our community; for example, we go out to the low-income communities and check their vital signs to give them an idea where their health is at. My academics are okay. I have a 4.3 GPA weighted and 1200 SAT score. I currently only have 350 community service hours. And I am also helping out with a local political campaign for the mid terms.
For UC Riverside below is how they review Freshman applicants. GPA/Test scores/HS course Rigor and Essays are Very Important but EC’s are only Important. Having exposure to possible future career’s is good but if you do not have the stats to get into UCR, the EC’s will not make up for the academics.
You have a competitive GPA if that is your capped weighted UC GPA but I would work on bumping up your test scores. You want test scores at or above the averages.
