Are these ok to put on a college resume?

I'm currently working on college applications (slowly and not-so-surely, unfortunately), and I have a couple of questions about my resume.

After rummaging through my closet, I found a couple of these "nominations" I received. One was for The National Society of High School Scholars, and the other was a National Scholar Nomination for the 2007 National Young Leaders Conference. I already found a question on Yahoo Answers about the former, as some thought it was a scam.

But my question is: without actually BECOMING a member of the Society/ attending the National Young Leaders Conference, is it ok to put them down on my resume as being a nominee?

Thanks for the help!

Also, if anyone who answers this knows about the NSHSS, could you let me know what grade of students it applies to? Like, what grade (10th? 11th?) I was most likely in when I received the nomination.

Honestly, I wouldn't put any of those on your application... they really don't mean anything to colleges. They're just like Who's Who.
Now, if you were to attend NYLC (which I think is a waste of money, persoanally), I think it would be worth it to put it on your app, but otherwise, don't bother.

Hmm, yeah, someone else I asked gave a similar response, particularly noting that including those for Ivy, or Ivy-calibur, schools would not be helpful. I don't know if I'm applying to any Ivies, but I'm applying to some good schools, like Carnegie Mellon and Wesleyan.

So would putting those on my resume HURT me in any way?

They would not hurt you. I believe the officers will probably just scoff at them. I mean, if you got boxes to fill and lines to use, might as well insert them in though.

they'll hurt you in the sense that you could've written something else.
i go to an int'l school in china and everyone in my class who took the psat junior year received the NSHSS thing.

Don't put them down, particularly since you didn't join. If you didn't think they were important, why should a college?

Yes, it can hurt you - it's resume padding. Colleges want to know about what is important to you, not everything you've ever done or been nominated for in your life.

hmm, I'm getting conflicting opinions, but it seems like I shouldn't do it. I think I'll ask my guidance counselor for the final decision. Thanks, everyone!
